Recommended gun shop in Polk County, FL?

I have a free afternoon in Lakeland, Polk County, FL. I would LOVE to go gun shopping while I'm here, but I'm really not familiar with the area. The kinds of stores I like: Lots of used guns Stocks handguns as well as long guns The more disorganized, the better! Inexpensive, or at...

Whats a good place to start?

The only places I've ever seen that rent guns are firing ranges. Of the six I've visited, four offer a reasonable selection of firearms for rent. I'd also ask friends/family who have guns for permission to join them on their next trip to the range.

    Liability insurance for consultant?

Thanks for the input, folks. Let me answer the specific questions: 1. Is there a market for that? Where I live, yes. There are folks who want to buy their first gun but are intimidated by their own ignorance (as well as by firearms at all) and would be willing to pay for advice. 2...

    Liability insurance for consultant?

My wife and I are considering creating a consulting business to help advise newbies on their first firearms purchase. Here's my question: does anyone have any idea what sort of liability insurance I'd need to pursue this line of work? Any thoughts are appreciated, and thanks.

    Wingmaster for home defense?

Let me be the first to say it -- get a Wingmaster. Not only is it an exceptional firearm, it will hold onto its resale value well. I have an 870 I use for trapshooting. When I get home I swap barrels and put it next to the bed. I'm not a handy guy but it takes approximately 90 seconds to...

South Florida local: restorer of top-breaks?

A few months ago at a Ft Lauderdale gun show I spoke with a gentleman who restored top-break revolvers: Iver Johnsons, H&Rs, a couple of Smith & Wessons. He had restored these little dandies to like-new condition. I didn't have the money to buy at the time (alas! :banghead:) and haven't seen...

Looking for first shotgun; thinking Remington 870

A Remington 870 in 12 ga. was my first shotgun and I completely love it. I understand those who prefer the Mossberg safety placement. I prefer the way the Remmy feels in my hands. You can't go wrong, so choose the one that feels best to you.

    Star 9MM

I think you could get $250 for it, maybe $225-$230 without a magazine. I bought one two years ago with 2 magazines and box for $225. I totally love it, by the way -- it's the only SA semiauto I own and I think it's fantastic.

    Model 10 timing issue?

To answer the direct questions: 1. I did buy it used -- lots of holster wear. 2. I was checking cylinder alignment (testing the checkout on a revolver I already own) when I spotted the shavings. I honestly can't tell whether or not the cylinder's aligned properly. Maybe I just need more...

    lowest price internet site?

Sarco has stock 1911s from Rock Island for $319 IIRC. There was an ad in the last Shotgun News -- not listed on their website. That's right -- just got up and checked the SGN ad. $319.

    Model 10 timing issue?

I have shot it -- put 50 rounds through it at the range. What's puzzling to me is that the shavings are showing up in just one cylinder, and the barrel. I suppose it's possible that there was something like sawdust in my range bag that crudded the gun up, but if that's the case I'd expect to...

    Model 10 timing issue?

The cylinder does lock properly. There's slight side-to-side wiggle even when the hammer's back, but never unlocking. The cylinder does latch itself on every cock of the hammer. The crane doesn't wiggle, and doesn't look bent. As far as I can tell, staring (carefully!) down the barrel, the...

    Model 10 timing issue?

I recently purchased a Model 10. I didn't do the full checkout but this afternoon, while practicing for checking out other revolvers, I did so. I noticed what looked like shavings on one of the cylinders and also in the barrel. I tried to get a sample, to tell what they were made of, but my...

Colt Police Positive in .32 - checkout anxiety!

Old Fuff -- I have a soft spot for all small-frame revolvers. I've been looking around for months for an old Iver Johnson or H&R top-break in good mechanical shape -- that's how I happened on this Colt. I'll go back to the shop and check the serial number and the other things mentioned. Thanks...

Colt Police Positive in .32 - checkout anxiety!

Okay, I've spent the last 8 hours scouring the web and THR history for info about the .32 Police Positive. I found one in ~70% condition at a local shop for $209. Here's the problem: my reading has made me feel about 10,000% ignorant about how to check out any particular specimen of...
