    Rim-fire reliability

I don't live in the USA and there is NO shortage here. 22LR here costs between 4-7c per round. What do you expect, exactly? The more you spend on it, the more reliable it gets. Some of the match stuff is absolutely flawless. Rimfire ammo has a wet priming compound put in and is then spun out...

    Top Shot Returns -New Season

It was apparent that the POI on that mile shot was changing as the barrel heated up. The sight picture they showed between some of the first shots and some of the last were completely different. It's not surprising that the experienced long range shooter came in second. He shot last. The person...

Calgary Flooding and Gun Seizures by RCMP (mini-New Orleans/Katrina)

Sorry - there's no humidity here. We just don't know the meaning of the word.

Calgary Flooding and Gun Seizures by RCMP (mini-New Orleans/Katrina)

Sadly here in Canada the Firearms Act of 1995 makes it a crime to own a firearm. The Posession and Acquisition License allows you exemption from prosecution under this law and allows you to purchase so long as you renew the license and pass your DAILY continue eligibility police background...

Why Did AU/NZ/India Stick With the old SMLE?

Polar bears are MUCH more aggressive than grizzlies.

Why Did AU/NZ/India Stick With the old SMLE?

Over here in Canada our Rangers still use the SMLE. Me, I've got a no1MkIII*. Tought as beaver nuts and the trigger mechanism won't freeze up like a modern enclosed design when out on 'patrol'. Hell, I bet there've been more giant moose and bear harvested in Northern Canada with the old 303...

Newly Redesigned Marlin 60 and Marlin 795 Impressions

Thanks for the tip. I have done something similar with my Nylon 66 except I used arrow shafts. That works but I find the method described in my original post to be quite satisfactory :)

Newly Redesigned Marlin 60 and Marlin 795 Impressions

Someone messaged me asking how much the rifles weigh. I used a rapala digital fish scale. It reports that the 597 weighs 4.18lbs and the 60 weighs 4.60lbs. That coating is paint. It's a painted aluminum receiver. Nothing to worry about.

Newly Redesigned Marlin 60 and Marlin 795 Impressions

^^^^ Great eye. I simply closed the calipers around the muzzle of each rifle. We now know why there is a difference in the elevation ramp height between each rifle. The Marlin 795 measures 0.620" and the Marlin 60 measures 0.648" across the muzzle. Both barrels are much thicker at the...

Newly Redesigned Marlin 60 and Marlin 795 Impressions

Yes, it's since the buyout. These new stocks have only been in production for a very short period of time. In fact, they sit side by side with the older style stocks at my LGS. I will measure the barrels with my calipers and report back.

Newly Redesigned Marlin 60 and Marlin 795 Impressions

I have purchased one each of the new production Model 60 and Model 795 rifles with the newly designed stock. As you can see, the new stock has a differently designed comb, a differently designed fore end which is angular rather than rounded. The new stock has a different medallion on the...

    savage model 11/111

I can't answer your stevens question but if you're looking for a platform gun the Howa 1500 or Rem 700 are good options. I can tell you that I've had a Stevens 200. It was one of the last years they made them. The action seemed pretty similar to the 111 FCXP that I had but the internal...

    savage model 11/111

I am not located in the United States so maybe prices are totally different here but for the same money as the Trophy Hunter XP, you can get a Tikka, A Vanguard Series 2, and a few other options all of which I'd put above the Savage in its current budget incarnation. Those Tikka's have some...

    savage model 11/111

As I alluded to earlier, there are new versions of the 11/111 which are totally different from the previous versions. The new Trophy Hunter version comes with a stock that's meant to look like an accustock but isn't. It does have the accustock bolt release system though and the plastic trigger...

    What's your EFFECTIVE recoil threshold?

When I was a young lad my father introduced me to rifles that kick too hard and too young of an age without the proper technique. As a consequence, I was recoil shy for most of my life. I would say it was mostly phsychological. Now, I've had a lot of experience and I se em to be buying...
