Really nice group! But not really unexpected for most 39A rifles folks have posted about on here. Accuracy seems to be inherent in them....as your rifle shows.

No expert to give you any answers BUT that is a very nice looking M-39! I really like octagon bbls and have a M-39 from 1971 with oct. bbl & brass curved butt plate w/brass nose cap. Try this site to see if you can track your 39's B-day: http://oldguns.net/sn_php/marlinlookup.php Let us know...

Stopped by to catch up on the happenings here....some interesting posts since last here...no new info to add but still have my two 39's. I really enjoy shooting them because they are well built like a fine machine and as accurate as I can manage with iron sights and old eyes. May have mentioned...

I use/have a Skinner sight on my M39 "rifle" 24"bbl (octagon/tapered) and it did not work with the Original Front Sight..changed out for Skinner and filed down to dial it in..but then I didn't have to remove the original rear sight either. However, on my Golden M39 "carbine" I still use/have...

sometimes a tuff call on a gun not seen...."lost" a few that way over the years...to slow on the draw...however, I have a "1936" also bought on spur of the moment at a gun show.but of course I could see it there, still I missed in the low lighting of building that it had been drilled for a side...

Nem said...."I'm planning to put a big loop on mine when I have it chopped." Better have long arms with big loop....had one on M92 and not liked it.....long way extra to reach lever and then go to full throw....just my 2c's.. The Duke and Lucas McCain aka Chuck Conners were BIG MEN and...

surfer.....can't tell for sure from the pic but it looks like maybe you don't have a sight blank in the dovetail where the rear sight "was"....good idea to fill that in with one to keep from ruining that dovetail. Is it just the butt stock at the end that has the water damage??? rest of stock...

McBuck....where is your geographic location? That could help determine how your recent good buy might compare against other recent sales of similar 336's around the country as values can differ around the country.

THANKS Able for you assessment on such thin data. I tend to agree after some searching for costs on net but am not a Marlin expert. My interest was the .35 rem cal. & figured a 1960's gun would be a "good 'un" cuz things were still pretty much well made then. Same ad listed 2 336's in...
