    Post your updates on success with 68s, 69s, 70s, and 75s in a 1 in 9" twist

You have to be sure to take into account variables like barrel length as well, but long heavy bullets do need faster twist. I too have shot up to 75gr in a 9 twist with good results, but keyholing is a very real concern, just a matter of exactly what a particular rifle will do. try 80 grain or...

I have a savage LRPV with a 9 twist. It's a tackdriver with black hills 68 gr match. I've shot the wolf 75 gr match and it was aroun .75" at 100yds, so that shoots good as well. Next up is the 77 gr black hills.

    1/11 twist in a .308

I shoot federal 168 match out of my remmy 5r, which has 11.25 twist. I hear that twist was chosen because it is optimum for 175's, but my rifle likes the 168's best. .75 moa, consistently, and enough .5" groups that I know it's my fault when they don't happen.

In between 243 and 300 Win Mag

Why? For 300 yd deer hunting, there is not enough of a difference between that and the 300winmag he already has. He could download/upload the 300 to about the same levels as a 7mag.

    Ruger No.1H Tropical .375 H&H

I bought one before a trip to Alaska to hunt brown bears. 6 different types of ammo and a trigger job and best groups I could get were about 3". Probably good enough but I wasn't thrilled. Then I thought, " hey maybe I can't shoot the big boomers so well". Shot my buddy's model 70 375, 1"...

would you use a 150 grn 308 bullet for elk?

ones that are hit in the right spot - none poorly hit ones - probably a similar number to the poorly hit ones with other calibers. under 300 yards a 308 is plenty for elk.

.22 good training for larger calibers?

We are all entitled to our opinions, but this is just flat out incorrect. 22's - esp. shooting high quality ammo are mechanically capable of well under submoa accuracy. Sure the trajectory is different, but that is actually one of the advantages. You don't need nearly as long a range to...

best cal. for deer in the south

Wow, thanks for telling us all how we have to hunt. I like long range hunting. I practice weekly at long range so I can hunt that way. I'm actually disappointed if a deer walks out 50 yards in front of me. On the other hand, I totally respect the guys that shoot flintlocks with roundballs...

Possible to get a M24 from Remington military?

yeah I have milspec as well and love it. .5" groups and I only have a burris 3-9 fullfield on it, so with a better scope it is likely to get even better.

Zero Distance for a Brownie Rifle

My 375 is sighted in for 200. The trajectory is similar to my 308, so I sighted in for the same distance just for the familiarity aspect. Although shooting brownies at 200+ is the exception, if your "friend" has the possibility of shooting other game while on the trip the 200 yard zero might...

    Rifle calibers for African game

No going to Africa to hunt trophy big game isn't cheap, but there is still plenty of opportunity there. Really though, hunting any trophy animals is expensive. Looked at a stone sheep hunt lately? Most brown bear hunts are 15K plus all your incidentals. Heck a true trophy mule deer hunt can...

Best 7 rem mag factory load

They'd make a .284 hole, but yeah picking a bullet that would expand at the velocity you plan to hit the animal with would be key. Any old bullet would not work of course. But if you are serious about taking animals at 800 yards, you are the type of person who would be paying attention to...

    Dedicated Deer Gun?

any caliber will do that. It's the quality of the particular rifle and ammunition that will determine if that accuracy is achievable on a case by case basis. And of course your shooting ability is a major factor.

Best 7 rem mag factory load

I won't dispute shooting game at 800 yards is a less than stellar idea for most people. This particular scenario is technically theory on my part, since I use a 308, and keep the distance under 600 where I feel confident. I can tell you killing deer with a 308 is not a problem to 600 if you...

    Remington 700 Police, .338 Lapua?

You are way off on the price, and they have been available to the public for quite some time. I've seen them for less than 2k, but here is one. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=158334156
