Project a long time in the making - 6.5 Grendel AK

Thanks for the supportive comments! I'd signed up on AKfiles ages ago to post about the project and I forgot about it while I was waiting for my account to be activated. I spent the weekend making a few dimensional tweaks here and there, hopefully I'll be trying it out in the next week.

Project a long time in the making - 6.5 Grendel AK

On the last outing with the rifle the cobbled together magazine well broke and I got distracted with other things for a while. Now I've 3d printed a whole new magazine well/trigger guard/pistol grip. Hopefully more testing soon.

That's the million dollar question. I'll find out as soon as I can find time to get to a range.

Project a long time in the making - 6.5 Grendel AK

I didn't really get as many photos of the project as I should have, but here's what I do have. This is the demilled parts kit and receiver: I used an M4 profile barrel, turned down to a modified AKM profile. I had to remove the barrel extension, weld up the gas port, and machine a stainless...

Project a long time in the making - 6.5 Grendel AK

Not quite 11 years ago I started kicking around an idea. https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/ak-in-6-5-grendel-w-ar-magwell.353318/ Today I got my first test fire. It works beautifully, though the rifle still needs a little cosmetic work.

    Israeli Kareen Hi-Power project

Yep, that's the Cylinder and Slide extended ambi safety. http://www.brownells.com/handgun-parts/action-parts/safety-parts/safeties/browning-hi-power-extended-ambi-safety-prod5492.aspx?ttver=1 Honestly though, I think I'd prefer a stock FN Hi-Power MkIII ambi safety - if I could actually find...

Thank you :) I agree, grips are the final thing on the list.

    Israeli Kareen Hi-Power project

I picked this up from J&G Sales in November, intending to use it to learn a few new gunsmithing skills. I stripped it down completely and refinished it in Moly Resin, cut the slide for Novak sights (the scariest part of this project), removed the magazine disconnect, de-humped and...

M1 Carbine bayonet mount picatinny rail.

A bunch more about the project here: http://wethearmed.com/gunsmithing-and-weapon-repair/m1-carbine-bayonet-mount-picatinny-rail-adapter/

M1 Carbine bayonet mount picatinny rail.

There wasn't much to the construction. I just cut the blade off a repro M4 baoyonet, removed the grips, and milled out a groove in a section of aluminum picatinny extrusion to fit the tang, milled the slots, JB welded it together, and finished it off with Moly-Resin. I'll have some more pics...

M1 Carbine bayonet mount picatinny rail.

1 hacked up reproduction bayonet + a bit of aluminum rail stock = easy mounting of a light without interfering with the sights or requiring modification of the rifle. Eventually I may put some effort into making one that doesn't require a donor bayonet.

    stevens 200 scout rifle

Necrothread resurrection, but here's the Stevens 200 scout I'm working on: I made a short rail for the rear bridge with an integrated stripper clip slot, for loading the fixed 20 round mag. I'm going to fabricate a rear sight to go on the rear rail, and make my own scout rail on which to hang...

Stripper guide for the Stevens 200 pseudo-Scout I'm building.

Yep, but fixed and non-removable in this case. That's why I wanted to have the ability to use strippers.

Stripper guide for the Stevens 200 pseudo-Scout I'm building.

Thanks! I don't think it could be milled into the rear ring and still line up with the back edge of the magazine. I could move the magazine back a smidge, but I think it might start running into the rear action pillar.

Now I need to get some stripper clips and see if it works :o If it works, I'll duplicate it in steel. I'm not sure how much I can trust those little aluminum nubs, but cutting aluminum is so much less hassle for a prototype.
