Taurus has a new pistol caliber carbine out. I do not know anything about it except it looks pretty cool. Too bad it only has a 10 round capacity.

If you go the 1-4x route you should really check out the vortex viper pst 1-4x24. They go for $499 and seem to have excellent reviews (I love mine) and the best warrantee in the business.
If you are not scared of buying a used optic I would check out SWFA's samplelist.com. They have some pretty good deal pop up on there if you check back regularly. I have bought from them and have nothing but good things to say.

If it were me, I would check samplelist.com and wait for a used aimpoint to pop up in your price range. I have done business with them before with good results.
