For those of you who tape your glasses ...

I have a friend who does this and he says it is fine. He hunts usually alone with is dog and told me that he doesn't even notice the tape anymore, but it does allow him to shoot right handed with a left dominate eye with both eyes open.

    Finding a good smith

Go to a good gunstore and ask them. You can also search the web. A good gunsmith can be hard to find. They can also be expensive. You can either get brain surgery or have your Model 11 tweaked. I just had a Parker GH repaired and cleaned and a dent removed from the damascus tube...

Anyone ever see shotgun with FBI markings?

I think the FBI sold them all to Mexicans.

    Winchester Model 50

At a gun show there was a Model 50 and 59 for sale for $500 for the two. The 50 is heavy. I already own a 59 and have been shooting it for a decade or more. It is nearly new. So were the two guns I saw for sale. I bought from Numrich a modified barrel for the 59, so I have a Full and Mod...

    Older Ithaca 37s

As a general rule, people prefer the corn cob pump handle over the newer one in 37's. I do. Of course it is a matter of personal choice.

    Older Ithaca 37s

A Polychoke will decrease the value of the gun, but it will make it more usable. I like Polychokes. If the S# is over 855,000 you can interchange the barrels with another and then change it back again. Not hard to do. If, however; the gun has a lower number and you want a new barrel...

Get 1937 Model 97 cleaned or leave well enough alone?

Took my 1923 Model 12 Win to the gunsmith. Asked him to measure the chamber length. He dropped in his gauge and said, "yep, it's short alright. I've never seen a short Model 12 before". I don't think he'd messed with one made in 1923. He lengthened it and eased the forcing cone. I've got...

    What's your "never buy" gun?

Some of my very best guns and some of my very worst are Rugers. My Single Six and Blackhawk are wonderful. My 10/22 mag is only good for a boat anchor. One of my very favorite guns is an Ruger No 1 in 357 mag.

I want to put a bipod on my R55

If you are hunting carry a back pack. Put the skinning knife and deer bag in their. Also a sandwich or two and some gloves. When you get a shot that needs a rest use a tree or limb. If you have neither slip off your pack and use it as a rest. Lay prone and take your shot. Forget that...

    What rifle would you recommend?

Get a .308 rifle made by either Ruger or Remington.

    Recommend Deer Rifle

I'd recommend a .308 in either a Ruger or Remington rifle. You can hunt elk with a .308 and it is one of the most popular round in Africa. I'd also not hesitate to shoot a bear with one, but you've got to do it right.

Japanese Arisaka Type 99 - I think, Need Help

All I can tell you for sure is that, if I were you; I would not shoot it.

    I found this old gun...

Yeah, take the gun back to the gunstore and sell it to the guy for $15,000. It's not worth nearly that much. With the 15K you can buy yourself a nearly mint 73 or 76 Winchester. Those smooth bore pumps were made to shoot shot in. They had little skeet that they'd toss up and shoot. They...

Unknown Single Shot Large Caliber Rifle...Military Looking/Eagle on it

Of course you have found a Model 1888 Springfield Trapdoor rifle. It has the bayonet ramrod. You push that little lever at the muzzle and the ramrod becomes a bayonet. Not many made. For years the 88 was rather common. As I recall they have a slightly shorter barrel, about the length of...

    M1 carbine info and value???

Value of M-1 Carbines seems to fluxuate with the supply of new imports, which sometimes come in in batches. I've seen $2300 to $600. A purist will give different values for different makers. Some are more rare than others. I have several Carbines which I bought when they were still...
