Best inexpensive home defense weapon (again, i know).

He should look into an NEF Pardner Pump shotgun; they are basically identical copies of the Remington 870. The quality is very good and they are very affordable. I picked mine up at Fleet Farm with walnut stock for $169 new, but they have synthetic and home defense versions as well.

    Useful Automatic Fire

It seems to be your position that no one is capable of firing a non-crew served full auto or burst weapon and hitting their target, but I've seen plenty of examples otherwise. The first time I ever laid hands on an MP5 I was able to keep the vast majority of my rounds in a 6-8" area using...

Average shots fired in average SD scenario

I've had this question as well and, given my own circumstances, the conclusion I reached was to keep on firing until the threat is gone. I have no idea what shape that will take in a real world situation, but I'm not defending myself or anyone else by firing a couple shots, stopping to evaluate...

What are the most ANTI-gun movies?

Runaway Jury made me very angry, especially since it hides the strongest anti-gun sentiment for the end and makes you realize how much time you just wasted  Runners Up: Hot Fuzz: The most ridiculous nonviolent shootout scene at the end, a Rambo-esque compilation of weapons and I don't...

How Do You Define Quality In A Firearm?

The question I have long wondered as well. I haven't held or shot a kimber, but it really does strike me how two essentially identical handguns made with similar materials can be so different in terms of price. What are you paying for with a $2,000 Kimber that you aren't getting in a $800 Para...

What would you do to prevent gun deaths?

Mandatory safety training in public schools. I don't think anyone's religion should have an influence on whether weapons should be handled properly anymore than it would be a concern for driver's ed. You wouldn't even have to have real weapons present, just watch some Eddie Eagle videos or NRA...

    Texas schoolteachers may carry guns

God Bless Texas! It's getting harder and harder to come up with reasons not to move there :D

does anyone here keep a bulletproof vest close to their home defense weapon?

The body armor question seems to crop up every so often, and the OP is usually derided as paranoid and foolish for even think of it. The funny thing is the same folks deriding the OP are often the ones obsessing over caliber/type of ammo/type of weapon/what to do in x situation. The point...

    Church Group mayhem...

With any large group there needs to be organization, especially at a gun range. Any group going to a range should have a safety briefing before ever getting off the bus, and the chaperones/leaders need to be experienced with safety rules, or at least make sure the range has enough RO's to...

Getting a 5.45x39 upper built - a few questions for you experts regarding parts

If you can wait for it, Smith & Wesson is making an upper in 5.45 that will have chrome lined bolt, carrier, barrel, etc. The only problem is that they were supposed to be shipping in April, but they have been delayed several times and I've still got a crate of 5.45 ammo waiting to be fired :(...

Heller denied again in DC - Duplicate threads merged

I believe DC is offering a 6 month amnesty on currently unregistered handguns in the city, so bringing the gun in shouldn't be an issue, even if it doesn't meet their "guidelines". I would guess though that any guns coming in for registration that don't are probably confiscated, so Heller...

AR-style (AR10 type) makes more sense in full power round than intermediate power?

I'm a bit confused about the sky-high sight line you refer to. With a flat-top AR, your optics are right around where they would be on most bolt guns, and that can be adjusted/compensated for anyway. Are you using iron sights?

How effective is .223 against cars?

Garand, no doubt. If you have any sort of distance on the shooters, you will have the advantage since they will most likely be shooting pistols or mac-11 style sub guns, both of which are not very accurate off a bench, let alone out the window of a moving car. The 30-06 round will go clean...

    Del-Ton vs RRA

Go with the mid length, RRA is a good brand and there's no real downside to using a midlength and a lot of potential benefits.

    More Right Wing Judicial Activism

I'm amazed at how many people have gotten their undies in a bunch over Heller, people on OUR side. Jagger, would you rather the SCOTUS ruled that it was a collective right? This talk about the right to own any gun, anytime, anywhere is completely unrealistic and will NEVER happen, seeing as...
