6.5 Grendel: AR vs Bolt action?

If you're set on the Grendel I would think the AR would be best. There are better clamberings for bolt guns if you wanted to go out further, but for a gun designed to max at 200 yards you could build something marginally if any heavier than a bolt gun and have the added benefit of semi-auto...

    Kimber, Cooper, or something else?

What are your goals for the rifle? That's the question anybody who can answer your question needs to know. Money spent on a rifle can go into many things; a nicer grade of wood for the stock, metal etching or better finish, or more precisely machined (or custom) actions, barrels, etc. For the...

    Remington 700 ss 5r milspec 29663

Mine really likes 42.4 RE-15 under a 168 SMK loaded to 2.810. A couple things that haven't been mentioned; Lapua brass is really nice in 308 if you don't want to go to the butt pain of weighing and neck turning your brass. You can substantially improve accuracy using the better brass. It...

    308 Twist? 1:12 or 1:10

OK, barrel length does not play into this. Barrel length will give you velocity, but twist rate is about stabilizing the bullet, nothing else. I don't know how much you know about why some barrels have faster twist rates for the same caliber, but your question makes me think that a short...

Why .40 when there is 10mm?

The 40 was created when the Special Agent-in-Charge FBI Firearms Training Unit's John Hall tested 10mm for FBI use. The FBI tests found that the recoil of the 10mm was not optimal for many shooters and that the terminal performance of the round was still sufficient when it was downloaded to a...

    Ruger Mark II or III

I've shot both the MKII and MKIII a lot, I have a couple of each, and I really don't see much difference. My MKIII Hunter is one of the most accurate pistols I have ever shot. It will hold groups equal to my High Standard Victor, and uses any ammo without complaint. Moreover, you can shoot...

    tips on weak-hand-only shooting?

Weak-hand shooting is much tougher. You don't realize how much of shooting is muscle memory until you try to shoot with muscles that aren't memorized. The honest answer to your question is that you'll get better with thousands of rounds. Until then, focus on the fundamentals (sight picture...

    High Standard Supermatic Tournament

I have a few old High Standards; my experience is with the others, CCI standard velocity is the best when balancing cost with shooting. I've had great luck with the Federal Match ammo if you're willing to spend a bunch of money.

    Plated Bullets

Agree with the previous poster...Montana Gold and Precision Delta are very comparable in price to the plated bullets, but they are true, legitimate jacketed and the bullet won't be your limitation on how fast you can drive it (aka power factor). Plus, having used both companies for several...

Searching for the perfect 22 revolver, need your help

I have a Smith model 17 (blue) as well as several other 22 revolvers. I agree that it's worth it to look for a used 617 or spend the extra money on the new one; it simply outclasses everything else in the catagory in which you're looking. Without knowing your purpose in wanting a revolver, I...

reliable ammo for Ruger Mark III

My MkIII is flawless with most anything. The only exception is that it will have problems with Remington. I tried several brands of match ammo in it (CCI match pistol, Eley, Aguila, Federal Match and Super Match) and got groups of .5 to .75 inches at 25 yards with great reliability. Not bad.

    SW Mod 14 price check

I think that's a pretty good deal. You're going to spend more for pretty much anything new on the market, and, in my opinion, the K frames are still some of the best looking and performing guns out there. My 14-3 keeps up with some pretty high-test target .22s. For whatever people say they...

    Metering flake with the Uniflow

I use the small drum/screw setup in one of my Uniflows for loading Unique in 38/357 and 40 S&W. It works better than the big setup, but I still get more .1-.2 grain variations than I would like. With Bullseye that small setup is awesome...I can hit 2.5 to 5 grains 99 out of 100 times.

Has any one tried Precision Delta jacketed bullets?

I shoot both Precision Delta and Montana Gold. I like PDs very much, they make excellent bullets. I can't recomend them enough.
