Could AR popularity and sales getting low

I bought an AR-10 late last year and I regret it now. I learned all about direct impingement versus piston/rod actions. I was told by an Iraqi war veteran that as long as you keep the action "wet" the AR's are very dependable. I don't know if I like that. I should be okay as long as I don't...

What is the last gun that you bought?

I bought an AR-10 in .308 Win last year. It's a great looking rifle and shoots pretty good. However, if I had my druthers I would have passed on it. The direct impingement design was not what I was looking for. I think it is a detriment to any shooter to worry about keeping the chamber "wet"...

    22 mag

Uncle Ted Nugent uses a 10mm Glock to protect himself from mountain lions, etc. Actually, the mountain lions should be looking out for Ted Nugent. 10mm pistol is pretty good medicine. To answer your question, a 22WMR is plenty of gun to kill just about anything, as long as you hit what you...

    223/5.56 Sizing Die.

If you are a pleasure plinker and don't mind an occasional stove pipe, or a failure to go to full battery, then continue to use standard dies for your AR platform rifle. For me, I want it to go bang every time. It's one less item in the equation to cause a failure and to me it's worth using...

    Very disappointed in Hornady today

Is Hornady going under? Hard to believe that they can't make money making bullets these days. I use some of their products, especially the cannelure bullets for my AR-10. Sad to hear that they can't get their customer service in good order. After shooting true match grade bullets and...

    BR22 Load Is Sooty?

The load I'm using for the Sierra 40 grain bullet is not a mild load or starting load. I can't get the bullet close to the lans and still be able to seat the bullet reliably. I'm going to try to polish the expander button in my Forster FLS die and see if the reduced expander size will tighten...

Did I just ruin my Lee .380 sizing die with nickel brass?

FYI...I used to use nickel plated cases when reloading for my .280 Rem until I learned that these cases can leave hard grit particles behind in the die after resizing that will scratch your brass. I didn't have any scratches on my nickel plated cases, but I no longer buy nickel plated cases for...

    .308 win - IMR4064 or Varget

IMR-4064 with 165-168 bullets in a .308 Winchester is my go to powder and has always been since 1986 in a 20" Ruger M77 Ultra Light. I use IMR-4895 in my AR-10. Varget works very well for my buddy in his bolt rifle and it does meter more consistently than IMR-4064.

    BR22 Load Is Sooty?

Thanks Smitty. I have two boxes of the A-maxes and will give them a try. FYI...the gunsmith who chambered my 22BR used a .100" freebore reamer. I requested the barrel be set back and a 0" freebore reamer be used. The barrel set back went well, however, when loading short shanked bullets such...

How many people REALLY shoot anymore

I shoot mostly at a public shooting range in Garland, TX. I'm not sure if they would allow shooting prone from a mat or not. Last year I had the pleasure of shooting from the kneeling position on a 9-point Whitetail Deer in El Dorado, TX. The shot was only 105 yards, but I was proud of...

Anyone carry a 10mm for hunting?

I've had my Glock 20 for about 6 years now. I put in a Wolf spring kit because I was making warm loads for it. If you are a reloader, Blue Dot is a real good powder for it. If you aren't a reloader, McNett's Double-Tap ammo is the finest I've ever used for the 10mm. Quality all the way. I...

    BR22 Load Is Sooty?

I loaded-up 20 more rounds of 22BR tonite. I seated the 40 grain Sierra's .005" deeper hoping that the pressure will go up and get rid of the soot. (40 grain bullets just barely seats deep enough to my satisfaction). I also loaded some Sierra 53 HP Match loads. So far this rifle is...

So how many presses do you have

I've got two... I've got two, Bonanza Coax and RCBS. The RCBS I use for all the jobs that requires leverage and force. The Coax press can do the same Job the RCBS can do but I would rather keep it in a more pristine condition for seating bullets to more exacting tolerances.

    BR22 Load Is Sooty?

I went to my friendly public range today to sight-in a newly built 22BR rifle. However, one of the loads for my 22BR left a small residue of "soot" from the case neck all the way down the sides of the cases. Haven't seen this before. I was shooting the Sierra 40 grain Blitzkings over 28.0...

Tell me about the .22 WMR

The 22WMR is a good close range varminter and pest getter. It definitely outshines a .22LR in performance. It makes a mess of cottontail rabbits and squirrels but it very effective on Bobcat and coyotes at close to medium range. Not to sound morbid or to offend anyone, but the .22WMR is...
