Thanks Radagast !
Nice information to know and great to understand better of the date of shipping. I found a site for S&W guns that shows that the large medalion grips ended in 1920. My gun must be right at the end of this era.
I really like this old gun. The patina it has is amazing, and...
Being where you are at, it would not do justice. But, thanks for your willingness.
If you happen to be in the area, check what the prices are at just for kicks.

That is exactly what I purchased. 3 boxes. I will look to get reloads done affter that for a while until the brass is no longer usable. I understand that rifles get 3 to 5 reloads, what about these cartridges?
I understand that I should have the heat treated cylinder, but want to use caution...
I personally do not think that the government is buying 32-20 ammo. I believe the government is giving good reason to not produce 32-20 rounds, as they pay better than resellers. Therefor, who will you sell to ?
Mike
BTW...
I removed the grips earlier. One is stamped with the gun S/N and I cleaned them with WD40 and a toothbrush. They were stuck to the gun pretty good, lol...

A good friend gave me a S&W 32-20 a short while ago. I have figured out some good info on it, but can't find ammo for it. I know it is tough these days with the gov't buying so much, but how about our 32's?
Can someone point me to where I can buy some ammo for this gun to take out and shoot...
There are some very good resources on here to help you identify it. Please read the very first post of this thread and include the information requested. Pictures do a lot to help identify a gun !

Using this site messaged to me... http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-hand-ejectors-1896-1961/281137-what-these-gold-medallion-grips.html
I see where it is suggested that these grips were used between 1911 and 1920. I removed my grips (carefully) and found the right side stamped with my serial...
I took a few more pictures at my keyboard...
I have done no cleaning of it, only oiled it up with 3in1 oil and wiped it down good to keep a coat of oil on it.

Took some more pictures, but my camera just can't do all that good. The gun looks nicer than the pics show it to be. Not like new, but just nicer. The medalions have more deatils than the camera is capturing.
Are the medalion grips added features? Or basic in these guns? Just curious.
I...
Thx Fuff
Any logic to the 2 sets of numbers? I just realized that the 3 2 241 is in 2 places right next to each other almost. One in the body near the swing arm for the chamber and one on the arm by the pivot.
BTW - the last patent date on the barrel is 1914
Mike
Thanks for the response. It makes me wonder about bluing. The metal looks natural steel like and no pitting from rust I believe. It is a nice looking gun though.
Hmmmmm
