I’m using a 220 gr. Plain base powder coated bullet from an Arsenal (very similar to NOE) mold. I sized these to .410” and used 9.0 gr. Longshot over a CCI 350 mag. Primer. So far, these have been the dead on, most accurate loads I have shot from that gun. It’s a Smith 57 6” barreled.
Thanks Black Mamba. I’m going to try some loads with Longshot this weekend. Pretty narrow band from low to high with that powder I notice. I had planned on trying out some HS 6 and then some Blue Dot.
Say what? I shoot 8.0 gr. Unique and consider it a relatively mild load. I realize Unique is not a magnum powder in a pistol. There are powders in between Unique and H110/296 also we know. Those are the ones I’m curious about. I consider my 8 gr. Unique load about tops for Unique for me. I...
That’s where I get mine too. Since I started powdercoating, I haven’t had half the troubles I used to have with ordinary lube. I can even get great accuracy out of my M1 Garand and cast boolits powder coated.
Reason I ask is that I’ve shot full house loads in both .357 and .44 mag & the recoil was pretty severe. Perhaps a bit slower powder might be a little better so I’ll give those a try (judiciously of course).
Thanks Charlie for that info. I used to be a big fan of magnum everything loads but now that the years are beginning to creep up on me, I’m beginning to see why there are such things as lighter loads.
I'm doing really well with the 8.0 gr. Unique load and 210 gr. RCBS mould rnfp plainbase powder coated .410" sized out of a M57 6". Am curious on other accurate loadings not breaking the sound barrier. I also have a similar mould of 220 gr. made by Arsenal moulds.
Count me in. Was just gifted a M57 6” barrel. Shot it at the range and really liked it. It seemed to me to be the perfect combination between my .44 magnums and my .357’s. Got 500 new Starline cases, borrowed a couple of moulds, got some dies and a .410 bullet sizer. Couple more moulds on...
I just picked up a Wickliffe “Stinger” rifle, at a local pawnshop, re-chambered and bored out to .357 Maximum. My Starline brass just showed up today so haven’t had a chance to shoot anything but some .357 magnum loads with 190 gr. Cast Bullets from a group buy. These were loaded with 11 gr...
