Thoughts on running "slugs only" in a defensive gun?

Treb, I know I'm probably not "qualified" to say this (I'm a shotgun newb, remember), but: You seem a bit over-worried about learning about the Shotgun. Personally, I don't think it's that hard, really. True, there're different techniques, I'm sure! But if you keep it simple, it'll still be...

Thoughts on running "slugs only" in a defensive gun?

That's exactly what I just ordered 5 days ago! I bought 5 shells of Federal 12 gauge 3" Magnum 000 copper plated buckshot. I am a newb to shotguns (just got my first Mossberg 500 about 2 weeks ago), and am getting some ammo just to test out. I know these are going to kick hard, but I just want...

45 acp 230 gr FMJ for defense, why not?

If you feel an expanding .45 ACP JHP doesn't penetrate enough, then yes, use FMJ. If the JHP .45 penetrates enough even after expanding, then all the more better; keep the JHP. It's that plain, and that simple. I'd rather shoot a bear (for instance) with .45 ACP FMJ, rather than .45 ACP JHP...

    Glock 40 7.62x25mm

GLOCK would most likely make the 7.62x25 Glock using the Glock 20 and Glock 29 models, since they're already 10x25mm, and can also presently be converted to 9x25 Dillon. And yes, people've brought this same idea up on the other "What would you like to be the next Glock model made?" threads...

    Semiauto with revolver-like trigger?

I'd also suggest trying a Glock with a NY1 or NY2 trigger spring, if you don't mind trying a Glock out. I'm willing to bet you (and 95% of posters in this thread) haven't even fired a NY1 and NY2 trigger spring Glock... so don't bother putting him down when you haven't even tried it yet...

    45 super

True... but keep in mind: Their .45 ACP velocities were from a 5" barrel 1911. Most of the other popular calibers were shot from Glocks with shorter barrels, including the 10mm from a 4.6" barrel. I'd like to see what Mike could do with the .45 Super. :)

    45 super

And, I strongly believe the major reason is (not kidding, either): The 10mm is available without modification to any pistol you buy for it. Glock 20 and 29 are made for 10mm shooting, and the 10mm is more powerful from any factory manufacturer. All you have to do if you already have a .45 ACP...

    compact 10MM

Glock 29 is actually a larger sub compact. Not a compact. At least in Glock terms. Its height is but 4.4 inches; 10+1 capacity. You can fit a 15 round mag in it, for higher cap backup, though... which is nice. And it's Glock-reliabile and Glock-durable, too. :D

    Pocket carry a Glock 26?

Skers, you might want to do a search on www.GlockTalk.com for this; I've read quite a few posts in the past on people actually successfully pocket-carrying sub compact Glocks. :) Click here: http://glocktalk.com/forums/search.php?searchid=1137809 I did a quick search "Pocket G26" and found...

what are the pros and cons of the 10mm?

Pros: * Very powerful round passing the power of the .357 Magnum full house loads by a decent margin through the same length barrel; yet at the same time: can be bought (or made) very light, around .40 S&W power loads. Thus very versatile. Has lighter recoil than a hot .357 Magnum revolver...

I can only afford one so which one?

I'd get a Glock. They easily convert to .22, as well. Simple, reliable, durable; with MANY aftermarket parts (replacement and enhancement)... etc. etc.

    Chrono'd some 10mm today

DFW, I heard DoubleTap company is located in the mountains (?), or at least that's where they did the tests... so I think the elevation had a lot to do with the FPS as they advertised. :uhoh:

Oh yeah, almost forgot... just one more thing: TED NUGENT OWNS ONE! :what: (Thanks vroadking!) :neener:

    compact 10MM

The Glock 29 weighs but around 32 oz. Not too bad on the weight side, if this is what is concerning people when jogging with it. And against bears in the woods (if he's jogging in or near the woods) the 10mm is just what he'd like to have, at the same time as being a concealed carry caliber...

    compact 10MM

Well, for concealed carry, I'd personally keep the 10 round mags in it while walking (or jogging?) around, while I'd keep the 15 round mag(s) in my pocket (or wherever) for higher capacity backup mag(s). The Glock 20 (which comes stock with the 15 round mags) is 5.47" tall, so I'd expect the...
