My article on recharging primers is up on SurvivalBlog!

If you topped off a paper cap with a mixture of 67% potassium chlorate and 33% antimony sulfide, it would be similar to the H48 mixture which the U.S. Army was using for smokeless powder in the early 1900s.

Article: According to the Founders, all federal gun restrictions are unconstitutional

The key word in my post was "future", and I have expressed my expectations - especially with regard to the Second Amendment - the U.S. Supreme Court struck down local ordinances in Heller and McDonald, and it is conceivable that they would do it again. I won't complain if it happens, at least it...

Article: According to the Founders, all federal gun restrictions are unconstitutional

I expect that future rulings from the Swamp's high priests will be shaped more by "the governmental interests" (mentioned in your post #17) than by any consideration for the intent of the Constitution's authors.

Article: According to the Founders, all federal gun restrictions are unconstitutional

"on every question of construction, carry ourselves back to the time when the constitution was adopted, recollect the spirit manifested in the debates, & instead of trying what meaning may be squeezed out of the text, or invented against it, conform to the probable one in which it was past." -...

    Cap making question

Black Jack Shellac, that’s good advice – Bravo! I added water to the “tan mystery powder” and let it sit overnight in an un-capped plastic vial. I pulled this “plug” of material out of the vial this morning. The top end of the plug (exposed to the air overnight) is rigid. The bottom part of...

    Cap making question

I saw something today that surprised me..... Try this : place 1cc of that tan "mystery powder" from the PRIME-ALL kit into a test tube or some other tiny cup. Next add 1cc of water and stir it up. It makes you wonder "What were they thinking, instructing customers to use acetone or alcohol?!"

    Wall thickness, pressure and steel

The old 1975 Lyman Black Powder Handbook lists the following data for a patched 92-grain lead ball - 2690 LUP (Lead Units of Pressure) with 25 grains of Gearhart-Owen FFFg, and 3760 LUP with 30 grains of G-O FFFg. LUP is not equal to PSI, but it should be in the ballpark. I would note that the...

    Preloaded spare cylinders...thoughts?

AJumbo, some guys set up a cylinder to fire, removed from the gun - no barrel - and measured a velocity of 146 ft/sec. Here's an old thread which referenced those tests - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/anyone-have-an-old-beat-up-1858-cylinder.807058/#post-10310542 Unfortunately...

1994 vs 1934 - Why Did We Ban in 1994 But Not 1934?

During the 1934 Congressional hearings which led up to the National Firearms Act, Oklahoma Rep. James McClintic asked U.S. Attorney General Homer Cummings about the feasability of even registering machineguns which were owned by private citizens -...
