    No outdoor shooting this weekend

Yep was too cold to enjoy shooting here too. No frozen pipes but I had put several sodas in a cooler on my porch to protect them from freezing. But they all froze anyway, one exploded and made a heck of a mess inside the cooler.

    "Discreet" rifle case..?

Hmm I just put my AR in a tactical case, vlack one I think. It lives on the floor behind the driver seat of my truck, with way more mags than I hope to ever need. Throw and old coat etc. over it and poof it disappears into the detritus pile that is the back of my seat.

    223 rifle

Sell ALL the 55 FMJ ammo, take the money and go shopping. If you want something in .223 get a nice one, add a good scope and then buy some decent ammo. If something in 6.5 catches your eye instead cool, or maybe it will be a 1911 who knows, it's a hunt and you have mo ey in your pocket. Then...

    funny 30-30 story

I had a cousin o e time who had borrowed a 94 Winchester, jumped a deer but never fired a shot. He had calmly leveled all the rounds through and never pulled the trigger. He honestly was surprised, thought he had fired each time. Adrenaline does strange things to you.

How do you pack your reloads?

If I have a bunch I want to keep.clean and pretty I vac pack them and toss them in either an ammo can or one of the Various MTM type dry boxes, mark.the load on the outside of the bag. But I like to vac pack stuff so. . . Rifle runs not as much as I usually don't have enough to overflow my...

    Axes and mauls

I just bought 2 axes both estwing, 16 in camp axe and 26 inch axe. Both are nice and oddly they both are very similar in weight, thin blade that will chop easily but wouldnt be much of a splitter, for that I have a gerber splitting axe it works very well, wish it was a bit longer and they make...

    Ruger 77/22 experiences

I have had 3, a 77/22 . 22 LR beautiful rifle not a super tack driver, little trigger work and floated barrel. Shoots more than well enough for fun and squirrels, currently has a Leupold 2-7 scope. A 77/22 in .22 Hornet, absolutely one of my favorite rifles, I did a channel release and glass...

    Scope question for pronghorn hunters

Been a while for me but never had anything bigger than 3x9 on my old 7mm Mag. I would trade a 4x12 for a super cleat 3x9 or 2x8 in a heartbeat, however if your 4x12 is a good quality cleavage scope it will work fine. Bipod tripod would have been a great addition for me. I did buy one for the...

    70-grain TSX?

I have taken a few deer with 55 grain TSX and they worked winderfully, easily punching all they way through. Personally the 62 grain would be the heaviest I would go, the TSX bullets thrive on velocity, so a little lighter weight and move them faster and they are deadly. Have heard that some...

With the COVID-19 scare going on, are you out walking more? What stick are you using?

I can't seem to get more than 6 feet.from the house without one of my walking sticks. I have many some are made from whatever I found that caught my eye. The best ones I bought a farm stores, they are cattle sorting sticks made of fiberglass. There are 2 sizes a thinner one and a thicker one...

    Best hunting 22LR ammo?

I am big on shooting whatever .22 LR I can find. However the winchester 40 grain loads have not shot well in anything I have tried them in. For accuracy in a normal load CCI Mini Mags have been great. Also ha e a bunch of federal champion standard velocity loads that shoot well for me.

    Hoppe's #9 smell

I may have sprayed some G96 on a cloth in my gun room just for the smell. Smells like my youth!

Finally decided to buy an AR.

I drank the Kool aid back in 2012 and have been happy with mine since. I have pieced together several mags from various sources. Any time yu are at a yard sale poke through the boxes, old aluminum GI mags are everywhere for a couple bucks each. This summer I found a box with 10 or so AR mags...

Don’t shoot deer in the butt

I helped clean a badly gut shot deer during a special hunt for handicapped hunters. Not sure exactly how he shot it but looked like a grenade went off between the two hind quarters. Pieces of acorn embedded into the meat. It was ugly, but effective as the deer was dead.
