just to wrap up, i called Hornady on Monday...had the part in hand on wednesday, no questions asked. they were friendly and helpful on the phone (their phone menu is funny btw). part is back in, and press is workin fine now after i adjusted the decap die.

maybe i'm misunderstanding, but a bullet passes through an arm, hits a vest longside and doesn't penetrate...and that's some sort of evidence that it's not capable?

i'm using ESS ICE goggles...mainly because i get the prescription lense inserts for it for free. they cost about 40 bucks, and come with smoke, clear, and yellow lenses.
