Mixing headstamps on .45 ACP reloads?

I don't sort for batches, but I do toss certain brass during reloading. I usually toss anything crimped rather than waste the time removing it. AMERC is terrible. I found one in this week's batch by the totally different feel it gave during belling. PMC,certain old (30-40YO)Winchester,IMI,S&B...

    'Fluxing' lead

I find that when casting with wheelweights, the melting oily crud on them serves as a good flux :) BTW, as one slug caster to another,if casting with pure lead, cast hot! I had a lot of trouble getting proper fillout using a foster slug mold with (near) pure lead. Some tin definitely helps...

    Lee Perfect Powder Measure

I like my PPM. It throws accurate charges with any stick powder, ok with flake, and has some problems with fine ball. Basically the finer the powder, the harder it is to get it to run well. Mine jams the drum with AA#9 and WW296 unless I tighten the drum screw down until I can barely turn it...

So, whats the difference between blackpower and pyrodex?

My personal experience: I can force about 4 or 5 patched round balls down my TC Grey Hawk using FF Goex before needing to wet swab the barrel. Using Pyrodex in the TC, I have shot at least 30 rounds without any swabbing, and could likely do many more as the loading resistance doesn't increase...

Ok, THR members, where do you buy your real black powder?

I believe that's Mr. Venskoske of back creek gunshop. http://www.blackpowderva.com/ He and his wife are excellent folks, and have good prices. Local gunshops charge a lot more in my area since so few of them have it. Accordingly I never buy from them. Personally I recommend the...

    Ruger SP101 .357 Mag

Nice grips! I've been looking to trade my GP100 for an SP101 .357 for pocket carry.

Why Do some guys bad mouth the .30-30?

It's probably more complaining about the platforms than anything. The vast majority of 30/30s are lever actions. If you don't like levers, likely you don't like the 30/30. Myself,I'm not a big fan of the 30/30. My only 30/30 isn't anywhere near as accurate as my bolt guns. It's an annoying...

    Mall Shooting in Maryland

I used to go to school just down the street from that mall. It was always a funny mixing of thugging and yuppies. People wonder why I left MD to go live in the boonies... One thing is certain, this won't do a thing for concealed carry efforts in MD,with the interceding SS agent being wounded...

    "Crime Emergency" in DC...

Well, time for Chief Ramsey to trot out another tirade against the NRA,and blame Virginia and other states for our "lax gun laws". Read about Ramsey's views here (leave cold): h ttp://ww w.gunguys.com/?p=163

    Casting your own

Water quenching isn't going to result in any voids that aren't already there. There's either enough lead to fill the mold or there isn't. Rapidity of cooling won't change that. Any void is going to show up when you weigh or inspect anyway. Casting hot, as is necessary with non-alloyed lead for...

000 buck loads (or the lack thereof)

Buffer or pellets will boost charge weight,so definitely reweigh and reevaluate the load. I've done OOO with some of my trap loads also. Pellet size varies quite a bit from the established .36",which is another good reason to always weigh charges. Hornady OOO loads ok in a 6 pellet stack in...

    IMR4895/WC846

IMR 4895 is a really short grain extruded powder. It should meter better than most, though not as evenly as 846. If it makes you feel better,I've found my 4895 batches from Wideners to be much less temperature sensitive than my 846 or 844 batches.

Is the Winchester Silvertip 45 ACP 230g JHP available as a component?

I've only seen the .358 145gr bullets available, personally. That said, I've shot the 230gr silvertips into media. They plugged easily through phone books, but expanded well in water. The jackets retained well, even in water. It would be nice to get some, but there are plenty of other good bullets...

    .38 Spl +P

No one ever loans guns to you,do they Clark? If I ever make a million bucks,I'm sending you an N frame .357 for testing, just to see what you can do with your own "38/44s". It will come with an indemnity waiver though....
