How much reloading supply's do you keep on hand

Roughly enough to load 2,000 rounds for the rifles.
  2. Q

    Coincidence or not when reloading

I'd go with John Wayne's muscle memory answer.

want to start reloading, but worryed about safty

My buddies used to say that I was so clumsy that I could cut myself with a bowling ball. But I've been loading since the early sixties and have never been hurt or had an accident. Simply follow the short list of rules and you'll be as safe as can be.

Surplus ammo used as reloading material?

FWIW....My advice would be to put those bullets aside until you are a more experienced loader. Get the book, learn all that you can, and start your loading with new commercial components, Then later on, when you have a good idea of what you're doing, it will be time to mess with them.

    New guy contemplating handloading

And if you are going to be doing rifle cases in the future get a stuck case remover as well. You may never need it, but if you ever do, you'll be real happy that you have it.
  6. Q

What do you do with your empty powder containers?

I spray paint over the label and toss them in the recycle bin.

Store-bought lead furnace or grill+dutch oven?

I too have done it both ways, and I agree with zxcvbib and the others. You can use most anything to cast the ingots, but a 20# electric furnace will make casting bullets a whole lot easier.

    New guy contemplating handloading

Here is one piece of advice I would venture to give to a new guy about presses. Find out where the primers are going to go!!!! I have a newer press that lives under the bench because it just drops primers all over the place. :banghead: It annoyed me so much that I dug out my old one, that...

    Hornady Custom-Grade dies

Call Hornady. I'm sure they'll make it right. All the die companies are pretty good about things that get by their inspectors.

    New guy contemplating handloading

I find the single stage works fine for me, although I see nothing wrong with the other presses. Especially for hand gun ammo. I use about 400-500 rifle loads a month and I load them exactly the same way as RC. I just relax, take my time, and I'm picky about it. Which probably slows me down some.

    Substitute for case lube?

I've used Break Free and a pad for so many years now that I don't even remember when I started.
  12. Q

Barrel temp - how does it affect groups when testing loads?

In my experience it depends on what you are using for a rifle. My Savage 99 featherweight in .308 will heat up really fast, forcing the POI up after only 3 rounds, unless I really let it cool off. But my Win 94 doesn't seem to care how many rounds go thru it. It's easier in the end to just let...

Purchased New brass what to do first?

Size, trim to square the mouth off, and make sure there is a flash hole.

    Better than Chanel No. 5

All I have to do is open a bottle of Hoppe's Nine and it brings back such good memories from when I was a kid.

    My 3 y.o. and reloading

Shooting is a great hobby for children because they learn to obey rules at an early age. Plus having time with your kids or grand kids is GREAT! Enjoy them while you can because they grow real fast.
