    One last time Alabamaians.....

The new law does specifically say no other body can supercede state law. You currently technically need a permit to carry an unloaded gun in your trunk. You won't under the new law. There are a couple of new places you can't carry under the new law, granted....I'm with you on that. Note...

    One last time Alabamaians.....

Hey Doc, Check out Section 7, starting at the bottom of page 26. I'm not sure about the history or implications of Section 9, but Section 7 appears to reserve to the Legislature any ability to pass any laws pertaining to firearms, so that everyone is under the same laws throughout the state...

    One last time Alabamaians.....

Doc, I think you may have an old version. The one that passed explicitly disallows any local firearm ordinances that are different than state law. '-52' is still present, but reworded to be a little less ambiguous. Not perfect, but a little better than what we had. Here is a link to what I...

    Alabama gun bill

Open carry is legal already based on the fact that there are no laws against it, but this bill specifically mentions it as being legal and states that openly carrying a holsterered firearm does not constitute disorderly conduct. DC is the "catch-all" that is occasionally used to arrest an OC'er...

    Introducing a Brit to shooting

Duh, sorry, I meant Bankhead National Forest, not Wheeler. Sorry about that. You can google it and find out the location....it's way out in the woods, but the one time I went it seemed like a decent place.

    Introducing a Brit to shooting

Depending on where you are, you might consider the Hurricane Creek range in Bankhead National Forest. You can shoot pretty much anything there, as far as I know.

    Alabama - "Habitual Drunkard"?

@rori - No illusions there....I've been around him all my life and he's been drinking for most of that time. He's never been violent or particularly unpredictable, so I'm not concerned that he'd get drunk and even handle any of my guns. I certainly wouldn't have him around if there were any...

    Alabama - "Habitual Drunkard"?

StandingWolf - Yes, it is a risky proposition, to be sure. When I've told people about it, the responses I've gotten have been about 50/50 each way. We are going to lay out some pretty specific ground rules and I don't have any problems with terminating the arrangement if it becomes disruptive...

    Alabama - "Habitual Drunkard"?

Well, the thing is....he's been through rehab, but I woudn't say he's "habitually sober" at this point. He's doing fair, but has relapsed a couple of times lately. So I might still consider him a habitual drunkard until he's been sober for a couple of months at least. And I'm not concerned...

    Alabama - "Habitual Drunkard"?

I may have a relative coming to stay with me for a few weeks who is a recovering alcoholic. He is just coming out of rehab and has been mostly dry for a few months, albeit with an occasional relapse. I know he can't legally possess a firearm, but while he's living with us he'd have access to...

    YOUR "lessons from the streets"

My 6-year old daughter and I arrived at our apartment this past December after doing some shopping at about 9:00pm. I pulled in the parking space and started to turn off the car & get out when I noticed in the mirror that a beat-up-looking pickup truck had stopped directly behind my car...

    Open carry in Alabama?

Thanks for the info AL_Ranger. I wasn't aware of any specific instances, that's just what I had heard. Also, I didn't know about the Alabama Open Carry organization. I visited your website and may try to make one of the meeting after the holiday festivities die down a little. Thanks for your...

    Open carry in Alabama?

I've heard it stated that although open carry is legal in Alabama, if you manage to attract law enforcement attention to yourself by doing it, the Sheriff who issued your permit has the authority to revoke it if he's opposed to open carry. Since Alabama is a "may issue" state, the Sheriff can...

No "center of mass" for this shooter ...

Three different storied Wow, I read all six links posted above and got at least three significantly different versions of the story. The CNN one looks like the most believable, where they were all forced into the bathroom and she came back out with her gun drawn. It doesn't read like she...
