    Picitinney mount for 870

I primarily hunt with a rifle although once every several years I will deer hunt in an area that requires a shotgun and slugs. Because of this it doesn't make sense to me to have a dedicated scope for my shotgun. All of my rifles have a picitinney style mount so I'm thinking that it would make...

Unable to remove firing pin assembly from Kimber Montana

Anyone? If no one is familiar with the kimber Montana the Winchester model 70 is pretty much the same.

Unable to remove firing pin assembly from Kimber Montana

Once a year, I clean and lube the firing pin assembly on my bolt guns. Normally on my Kimber Montana, but bolt easily unscrews for easy removal. When I tried to remove it today, I encountered a lot of resistance and was only to turn it 1/4 turn or so that then I couldn't get any more rotation...

    Matchking & gameking

I hunt with hornady 165 grain bullets and target shoot with sierra match kings (168 grain). The poi is about 4 inches differant at 600 yards and not noticable out to 400.

    Ear protection and hunting

I keep a set of plugs on a string hanging around my neck. Not the soft spongey ones but the rubber ones with the baffles. They don't block noise as well, but they go in real easy and you don't have to wait for them to expand. If there is a possibility of shooting, the left one goes in. When...

Long range limits of the .223 as varmint round?

The .223 at least in terms of a target rifle is good for a lot more range than most people realize. I've got a friend who shoots the 77 grainers out of a match AR out to 1000 yards and can basically shoot the same groups as I can with my .308 at that range. That being said you really have to...

    308 squirel load

Try to find some loads for IMR's SR4759. I don't have my data with me but I know i'm getting around 1400 FPS with a 147 grain FMJ in my 300 win mag. There is also a similar load published for Trailboss. I think you could find both on the IMR website. It's a cheap practice load and does...

    Browning buckmark sight rail?

Looks like some of them have the sight integrated into the rail. Thanks!

    Which buckmark

I'm looking at getting a browning buckmark. The gun would be primairily be used as a range gun, but it would also get used for small game hunting while camping. I get up to AK caribou hunting every year and a .22 pistol would be a great way to get some fresh meat to suppliment the freeze dried...

    Browning buckmark sight rail?

I'm looking at picking up a Browning Buckmark. I really like the look and feel of the UDX plus. I'm hopeing to put a red dot sight on it, but noticed it doesn't have a rail. How much would it cost to add a rail for a buckmark that doesn't come with one from the factory? I was looking at the...

Secret to a good extreme spread with Varget?

As I posted in another thread, I'm currently trying to get a smaller extreme spread with varget in my .308. So far, with a 168 grain sierra match king, i've tried anywhere from 43.5 to 45.5 grains of varget and the best I could get is an ES of 40-50 fps. The load groups extremely well, but...

    Sierra's numbers a bit conservative?

bolt lift feels normal, but it is cold out so we'll see what happens in the summer. Still, if I don't get the es to settle down, I won't be using the load by that time. I'm looking mainly for cratering and a hard bolt lift. I haven't gotten either. I noticed that at 45 grains, I got a...

    Sierra's numbers a bit conservative?

I tried upping the loads a bit and didn't get any pressure sign. I started at 43.5 grains where I had been before, and worked up in 1/2 grain increments till I got to 45.5 grains. When I got to 44.5 grains, I noticed that I got an extra 100 fps over 43.5, but my groups opened way up to about...

Anyone here who hunts public land regularly?

I usually take a climber with me when I hunt public land. If there is an abundance of streight trees with no branches below 15-20 feet then a climber would be a good choice. If you don't have one, it might be a little late to get one for this season, but keep it in mind.
