    T/C Hawken,wedge question

I inherited this Hawken , it's a good 40 years old. When I install the barrel wedge it goes in until flush, which makes me think it's not 'wedging' the barrel any. I've never thought the gun shot as accurate as it should and thinking this could be why ?? Do they sell 'fat wedges' ,or am I wrong...

Need a light load for .45ACP in a SSA

a 200 grain cast bullet over the beginning load of Clays ...or any pistol powder, ...should not recoil hard in that SAA. Per LYmn's u can easily go back one full grain on the green dot,and one laod is even less than 5 grains but n my experience ,any super low loads don't ignite well.

    38-55

be aware that 38-55 brass comes in 2 lengths , the shorter is for lever guns, the longer for single shots. They are a great plinkker with cast bullets over Unique ,and other 'pistol' powders.

    Rifle Reloading Questions

re: "Oh, and don't overlook the Lee "Classic" Whack-a-Mole kits. They're actually pretty good for low-volume loading." as I recall these sets only neck size.

    Winchester 38-55 Issues

5 grains +- is within tolerance on a cast bullet. Voids in the bullet can cause weight differences, pretty common. You can push a gas checked cast bullet harder than a non gc, don't think u want to go full jacketed fps but let the manuals guide you on that. 3031 is a good powder for 38-55, if...

What do you think of these flattened primers?

the primers look fine to me, as to shooting low.. shot it benched or supported somehow, AND have another shooter shoot it.and try loading all cylinder fulls one round short, and don't look when closing the cylinder. Let that spot be a surprise, see if u are pulling down. I suspect you are

Trail Boss Powder for Bullseye Competition?

"I'm not sure you could fit enough Trail Boss in a 45 ACP case to reliably work the action. I never tried" I use it all the time with 200 grain rnfp cast bullets. 4.5 grains, gets the job done and no way to double charge. is it a 'bullseye' powder ? no idea, minute of 6" group is all I need for...

Do YOU size, chamfer and bell new handgun brass?

I size brass because i've had bullets all but fall into new, unsized brass. If it's rifle brass then yes I chamfer,no bell, most rifle die sets don't bell.my press...dillon....flares pistol brass at the powder stage so no chamfering.

    Which to buy first

start with pistol ammo, it's easier no lube required if u buy carbide die sets, and just all around a good way to start. Cast boolits are still very easy to acquire, my goto is Brazos,I like that they sell sample packs. with rifle you MUST lube the cases with a thin layer,or you WILL be...

I"ve read many accounts of those breaking. If you have that die you really should have a spare or 2 on hand. Most Hardware stores carry them
