Unless you have the wrists and forearms of Popeye, you don't want a .44 mag snubbie. An aquaintance has a S&W 29 cut down to 2.5" and magnaported. It not only recoils like a 32 pounder cannon but it puts out a fireball like an 8" howitzer. I am quite happy with my stainless Taurus .44...

As any long gun is easier to aim, especially under stress, that a handgun, something light and short yet sturdy like the M1 Carbine would be an excellent choice. And, if you run out of ammunition, you can always club them with it!:)
