If anything, I’d be more concerned about over penetration with the 45. A 357 with a 125 grain hollow point bullet will penetrate no deeper than any of the standard service pistol cartridges, where any factory loaded (or SAAMI spec handload)45 Colt round is going to be at the lower end of the...
I have the 3.75” Bisley in 44 mag. Over my chronograph I get 1325-1350 FPS with the Winchester white box and Federal American Eagle 240 gr loadings if that makes any difference to you.
Edit: looked up my data and the American Eagle 240 gr jhp loading averaged 1363 from said revolver.
I find myself more likely to need to take a shot at a feral pig or water moccasin than a two legged critter anymore so my 44 magnum is generally the pistol I have out of the safe. I try my best to remember to swap the cci shotshell out for a hollow point when I make the occasional quick trip to...
As far as a standard pressure lswchp buffalo bore and underwood are about it I think. If I'm not mistaken Remington has stopped making their 38+p altogether. Federal may still make the +p version, though I haven't seen any of those in a while either.
Have you explored the hollow based option?

If you're heart isn't set on the Ruger American you could get a mossberg MVP patrol in the same price range with "irons" (fiber optic?) already on the rifle. For a bit more coin, the GSR and cz 527's can be had with irons and are 5.56 rated as well.
If not set on a bolt rifle, those evil modern...
Underwood's Xtreme penetrator might be the best hog round for the 45 auto. Underwood also makes a 255 grain cast flat nose similar to Buffalo Bore's offering. Speer makes a 230 grain jacketed truncated cone in their lawman line.
Realistically the only way we have to determine whether the ammo is "+p" or not is to take the manufacturer's word for it. There are just too many factors that determine the final velocity of a particular round to use that as a gauge (shy of a 38 pushing a 180 grain at 1200 fps or something...
A fmj is a relatively thin copper jacket over a nearly pure lead core. The hard cast is a lead/antimony/tin alloy (mostly water quenched for extra hardness) throughout.
Voted for the wheel gun because some new shooters are intimidated by the slide on an auto. My wife got bit by a slide before I met her and is now opposed to semi's all together. Granted wit proper instruction this generally wont happen but why risk it. No reason to not get passed the newness of...
