FMJ for Defense: 10mm vs. .45 ACP

Personally I think you are 100% correct. Before I got promoted to management, and was still doing bounty killings full time, if I used 22, I'll use subsonic long rifle and place two in the chest and one in the head just because, even if you place it perfectly, it can end up somewhere totally...

    #24 was damn good. :)

Chief, you're right. Only problem is that everyone loves a caliber debate so it develops a life of its own :)

FMJ for Defense: 10mm vs. .45 ACP

Not that I know this for sure but I hear mafia type assassins use 22 routinely because it's quiet and if done at close range and placed accurately is quite effective. That said a 45 at close range is even more of a no brainer, and I'm not saying that as a pun if it's a head shot :)

FMJ for Defense: 10mm vs. .45 ACP

A friend of a friend told me when he was in the military he was in a gun fight 1:1 and both guys emptied their magazines (him with a beretta) and neither party was hit at pretty close range (7-10 yards). He ultimately survived by reloading fastest and got as close as possible to the other guy...

FMJ for Defense: 10mm vs. .45 ACP

I'd go with 45 for home defense because I shoot it well and wall penetration is minimal (compared to 10), but if you shoot someone with either, they're going down. Well, assuming you shoot for center of mass and place it well.

FMJ for Defense: 10mm vs. .45 ACP

If you place the shots well, it doesn't make a difference if it was 9 or 45. It's mainly personal preference dictated by your experience and world view and what you are most comfortable shooting accurately. The rest is (imho) placing too much emphasis on minor differences. I hate to use such...

9mm "too small" .40 "too snappy", has there ever been a .375 pistol caliber?

The ballistics for 40 were close to 45 because it was high pressure and increased mass over 9. The 9.5mm seems to have that same trade off but it would be closer to a 9 than 45. I just wonder how different that would really be from 9. More importantly, I think shot placement is the most...

9mm "too small" .40 "too snappy", has there ever been a .375 pistol caliber?

Especially for CCW :) Try 9mm JHP for a good compromise or bump to 45. In my opinion the "middle" ground between those isn't especially useful. I don't think there's a real .375 out there and I doubt there would be much use for it if it existed.

    Should I trade me G30 for a G30S?

You want all three actually. And a 10mm.

Ok thanks. I'll probably get the 625 as my next purchase.

Interesting. I have the same impression about the need for moon clips but also reload 45 and don't want to use the rim ammo. Then again I don't shoot 45 as much because it's expensive and I might want this as a bedside gun when my kid is old enough, so I'm not sure (for me) if that should...

Good call it's a nice looking gun. Can you put larger grips on it? I haven't shot too many revolvers that style but I shot one that had that more cowboy style grip and it didn't work for me. Probably that's easily remedied with a new grip, right?

You guys all make an excellent case for this revolver. I think I'll have to save up for it now. I really like the idea of a 45 wheel gun and I haven't heard any negatives with this one. When my kid is older and gun proofed, this will make an outstanding nightstand gun.
