    Copper/Polymer bullets - environmental impact?

I can see them getting restricted. Here in WA, you can't have any exposed zinc or copper on a building that has gutter runoff (the copper and zinc ions get into the water and kill fish). We have been painting much galvanized metal on the outside of buildings, and it is so crazy that even HVAC...

    .410 ga 3" 000 Buck vs 20 ga 3" 2 Buck?

I think a closer match would be the 410 3" with #4 buck -vs- the 20ga load of #2 buck. At short range, I prefer pellet count to hole size as long as the pellets penetrate. #4B is about the minimum I'd want to go to ensure penetration. But then I like the Judge too as I think 4 holes of 35...

Homeowner's son shoots, kills three would-be burglars with AR15

Most of the mid weight 223 softpoint loads (55 to 65 grains) won't penetrate as many walls as most handgun rounds. Hornady had their TAP line intended for this, but they don't make them anymore. The 55 grain TAP penetrates 8" in gelatin and 55gr Sierra game king 9.6". The Hornady penetrated into...

    WC in .327 FM

Load data I have for 327 cases with 98gr LHBWC loads with CCI 500 primer, OAL of 1.31" are: 2gr Red Dot for 608 fps (do not reduce) 3gr Red Dot for 881 fps If you use 32 H&R brass again with 98 gr LHBWCs, CCI 500 primers, OAL of 1.075", I have: Red Dot 2.1 to 2.3gr for 735 - 805 fps...

    Remington 700 Trigger Issue.

It was on 60 Minutes a week or so ago. I saw the preview and said to myself....oh not again. They beat down Remington years ago about the 700 triggers. Not sure what was different in this recent story other than perhaps they still don't know how to make a 99.99999% reliable trigger.

    Self-Storage

I think the key to avoiding a FFL is who controls the lock. I think it best if the customer controls the lock (via key or combo). Your security would be there to make sure people aren't coming in with bolt cutters to remove someone's lock (other than maybe their own which you'd need to verify)...

Ban on lead on Federal land

Didn't Congress pass a law stating that the EPA may not regulate lead on federal lands as it pertains to sporting equipment (e.g. shot, bullets, and fishing sinkers)? That was supposed to put a stop to this a few years ago unless Congress passed a law regulating it.

What would you build into a Reloading Shed?

A 4' power strip screwed to the wall. http://www.harborfreight.com/12-outlet-super-power-strip-96737.html Powder storage. I used a metal wall cabinet from Harbor Freight to hold that, and things like wads, hulls, and brass. http://www.harborfreight.com/hanging-tool-cabinet-39213.html Bullets are...

2 new .410 lever actions from Henry

Almost 357 mag or maybe a 327 federal? A 410 slug from a 2.5" shell is either 1/4 oz or 1/5 oz. So a bit over 100 grains for the 1/4oz slug. They are pretty fast, around 1500 fps, but slow down to about 850 fps at 100 yds. Penetration is the problem, as the bullet is light for caliber (it is...

    45 Colt "Ruger" Trailboss loads

I looked at all my load data for 45 Colt and trailboss. There is a max listed load intended for rifles that says 6.5grains of trailboss with a 225 grain cast bullet for 932 fps. Pressure is not listed. OAL was 1.60 and the primer was a CCI 300. Saw another set of loads for a redhawk which...

.38+P vs. .357mag, both with SWC Ammo

Given two identical non-expanding bullets, the faster one makes a slightly larger permanent crush cavity than the slower one. So it should be slightly more effective. Velocity also gives more potential for expansion if that bullet is a SWC HP. But that opens a can of worms -- a SWC HP that is...

S&W Governor? Gimmick or Good Idea?

Sorry, I meant 3" barrel. That was a 2.5" shell velocity. I think the velocity is about the same for the 2.5" and 3" shells.

S&W Governor? Gimmick or Good Idea?

Supposedly, the federal 000 loads (the ones intended for the Judge) do about 800 to 850 fps from a 3" Judge. This load has the tightest pattern of just about all the choices which make sense because all the pellets are in a straight line and rifling may actually help them. But the federal load...

    Great Wounding Ability-What Did It?

Sure there is. Can you say flat trajectory? Projectile effectiveness is irrelevant if you miss. With a high velocity load, you can have flat shooting to 300 yards. With a bp round, you need to be good at range estimation once past 200 yards. I would also say that recoil can be less which is...

    Gun control

Also note that many hunters user muzzle loaders and bows. Here, the season can be much longer for those shooting non-firearms. If just Ohio banned firearms, then they would suffer somewhat reduced hunting revenues. If it was nationwide, then I think hunters would shift to alternate equipment (as...
