I have a Remington Model 81 in 300 Savage - made in 1949, I believe. For plinking I cast bullets from the Lee C309-180-R mould and use moderate charges of AA2520 or IMR3031 (from the 2nd edition Lee Manual). These rounds operate the action and are accurate enough for enjoyable plinking.
If I can find an accurate load for the Speer round nose in the 2400-2500 fps range I will be satisfied. I would like to take the 1891 deer hunting, and I think such a load would be pretty effective.
Yep, begin with starting loads and work up carefully.

I was just reading the fairly recent thread about Lil Gun powder. A poster expressed concern about the use of this powder possibly damaging revolvers. I have seen this concern expressed elsewhere.
Would somebody be able to explain to me why this particular powder generates so much heat and...
I am going to start reloading 32 H&R Magnum.
Could I use 32-20 dies to bell the case mouths and seat the bullets after sizing / de-capping with a 32 H&R sizing die?
I ask this because I noticed I could buy the 32 H&R sizing die alone (saving some money if I didn't have to purchase the...
Longshot with Berry's plated 124 grain 9 mm. HP.
I wouldn't mind trying some of the VV powders, but they are never available in my area and they seem expensive.
I just now got a 303 Savage cartridge unstuck from a 30-30 LFC die. It had not occurred to me that the 303 Savage case would be bigger in diameter than 30-30 cases.
After removing the adjustment screw, I put the die in a vice and tapped on the cast lead bullet with a punch pin. This drove...
