Curious About The Henry USA Pump Action .22 Rifle

I bought a Henry pump .22LR a few years ago because I liked the appearance of the rifle, and because it reminded me of the historical importance of the old shooting galleries .22's. I also liked the fact that it shot the .22 short. ( I am a big fan of the .22 short.) Since I bought it I have...

What makes a 22 LR rifle or pistol fun?

I've said before but I will say it again - There are some types of shooting that ONLY the .22 can do! No other gun can do it! For example - shooting a small animal or bird with out blowing a big hole through it, or discreetly killing pests with out making a lot of noise. Also the .22 can be...

    Shooting glasses

The topic of shooting and wearing (or not wearing) eye protection brings back an unpleasant memory for me. If I hadn't been wearing glasses I would have lost an eye when I shooting a old .22 rifle. Metal fatigue blew out the chamber and fragments of metal blasted right back in my face. Metal...

Novice shooter: Is it better to start with a rifle or a handgun?

History tells me that the .22 caliber rifle has been the most popular firearm for many people to learn how to shoot accurately. Also remember that there are some types of shooting that only the .22 can do. No other gun can do it. And I think that most shooters will tell you that their best shots...

Staying Safe at the "Gravel Pit" or other Shooting Spot

Years ago, I remember reading about a deer hunter being robbed of his rifle by 2 dangerous persons who appoarched him as he was walking through the forest. He said that they had followed him from the road when they saw him park his car. And because he was alone he didn't argue with them when...

    22lr on a windy day

I remember one very windy day that I went to the gun range to shoot my bolt action marlin .22. At first I thought that I would have a lot of difficulties shooting accurately because of the wind, but then I made a discovery. The strong wind would blow hard for a few minutes then there would be a...

    Target stand

I am sorry to have to say this but .....I would NEVER give a kid a BB gun to learn shooting or marksmanship. I honestly don't understand how they got away with making such a dangerous toy as a BB gun for kids to play with. First of all.... there is no safety on a BB gun and there is no way to be...

    Have you ever been shot?

My Dad went hunting with another kid when he was a boy and the other kid accidently shot his own dog.

Dreams Involving Firearms: Weird Wild Stuff

Any time that I have a dream about shooting a gun, it is always a frightening dream of me not being able to aim the gun at the thing that is threatening me. Then I get the feeling,( in my dream) that this maybe my time to die. I can't explain why I am dreaming about my own death when I dream...

    rimfire ammo belt pouch

Isn't there something made for .22LR called the "Catch.22" . It is a small carying case for .22 ammo that keeps the ammo ready for loading into a tubular magazine. I remember wanting to buy one but the local gun dealer hadn't heard of it so he didn't have one.

Does being firearms knowledgeable take enjoyment out of things?

From what I have learned about guns over the years I am no longer impressed with James Bond type shooting that I see in spy movies. Being able to shoot people beacuse you are agent .007 and you have a "licence to kill" and you always get all the women, is too unbeieveable. The fact is in combat...

What's the cheapest gun you have that has given you the most enjoyment given it's price point?

This is something that I think about often and with regret too because I bought a Lakefield single shot .22 for $40 (when I was young and dumb.) I shot that gun until I wore it out. It was accurate and had a great trigger pull (crisp and clean.) And I got one of my best shots with it.(killed...

Have you purchased anything gun related in the last three days?

I bought a gun case for my Henry pump .22. It cost me $20. This is the second gun case that I bought for it because the first case turned out to be too long, and was a soft case, and I wanted a hard case. The first case won't go too waste because I can use it for my 12 gauge shotgun. It's a...

Czech Republic: real gun used during airsoft by mistake, serious injury

I used to scoff at the idea of shooting an airsoft gun because it seemed to be as useless as a BB gun (which is a gun/toy that I totally dispise.) Then later on I heard that the world's champion pistol shot uses an airsoft gun to practice shooting because he lives in Japan. Then when he goes to...

    Training for Heavy Recoil

I can feel myself flinching after firing my 12 gauge shot gun a few times. I use a recoil pad that has part of gel bicycle seat inside of it to make it even more shock absorbent. That certainly helps a lot - but still I flinch befor pulling the trigger.
