it sounds like any time one can find cheap ($400-$500) L1A1, even CAI/cast, it's a steal NOW.
I guess cheap kits have dried up.
I wander why prices of AK have started to come down, though, except for Arsenal...
1 more ? to FAL experts on THR: just did a quick and noticed that prices of both CAI L1A1 Sporters and DSA FALs really WENT UP.
Why? I thought CAI FAL used to be around $500 and DSA around $1K.

I have question. I got this recently in this configuration (no thumbhole stock).
The guy I got it from claimed that it came this way.
Did CAI ever release L1A1 Sporter like this?
Also, what is the heritage of the kit? Inch or metric and how do you know? The receiver is...
thanks for the info! I got it locally in a trade but will probably sell it.
That said, I found out that they are supposed to be pretty good shooters despite heavy trigger (due to being striker fired).

so receivers cut to accept "inch" mags are more useful?
Is there any functional difference b/w "unibrow" vs. "widow's peak" style feed ramps?
Appreciate the education.
You ROCK!
Thanks for the GRUNGEBAG site!
Looks like the model is Commando Mark 9 like the picture below from the following site: http://www.freewebs.com/grungebag/commandomark9.htm
LOL, in that case, independent of receiver, you can still have a highly functional FNFAL, even with CAI cast ones.
How much is CAI FNFAL worth today, when built on CAI/Imbel receiver?
PAP is higher quality but you should be able to find an used/pre-owned WASR for less since they've being in the market longer.
In fact, used WASR should cost less than building your own. Vz have better ergonomics but is not an AK and mags/accessories are cheaper for AK than Vz.
