    Appeal of No-stock “Pistols”

I have a Draco. I tried for years to use it safely with a sling and forward pressure, but eventually decided it was too easy to accidentally double (grip tightening under recoil) and without a stock the muzzle jittered well away from my target while I was riding recoil. It was unsafe. I put an...

    Backpacking with GP100

My problem with a chest rig is that I would sweat all over it. I have a tactical tailor Lunar pouch that works great and hasn't (to my knowledge) been IDed.

    Thoughts on this AR-9

Backpacks designed to stow for carry-on use are also a good fit. They often have 20-24" main compartments that open completely with a zipper (unlike backpacking backpacks that often just top-load), have some kind of internal frame, and look like any other backpack.

    Which MKIV?

I have a MK II competition, and it is a great gun. One struggle I have is that, in steel competitions, if I am running both the Ruger and a 1911 the grip angle shift sometimes makes my 'point' with the 1911 low as I expect the Ruger grip angle. So if you also shoot 1911s, the 22/45 is the way to...

    Kel-Tec CP33 / 33 round capacity .22 LR pistol

The pistol in the video is different than the pistol on the keltec product page in that it has a threaded receiver on the back. Presumably the prototype was made to accept a stock.

    New Handgun for Outdoors

I've gone back and forth on chest rigs, but ultimately moved away from the notion for hiking. While it is a convenient location to draw from, it can get in the way of a backpack and would end up getting sweat all over. I've been tempted by the Hill People Gear rigs because they're discreet...

Ruger PC Carbine 9mm question for owners.

After seeing them at the range (in carbine matches) I'm half convinced they're better than intermediate calibers for home defense. Easier to suppress, less blast, no recoil to speak of, and can be put into a shorter package without it sounding like setting off a bomb in a room. If I had the...

    Bug-Out/Emergency or Truck/Car Rifle

The closest I have is a Draco https://imgur.com/a/fEwOdOn with a folding 'arm brace.' It fits into a small bag, but I sure wouldn't want to leave it in my car. Car prowls are a real problem in my metro area. In the case of an earthquake it would go into my bike trailer and travel with me alright...

    Safepacker Holster Question

I looked at a few options and wound up getting the Tactical Tailor Lunar Concealed Carry Pouch. Partly I went with them because they're local and I like to support local small business, but it's also just been a handy bag. I put a small knife, pen, and flashlight in the outside pouch and wear it...

    What flashlight?

Now, I hiked for many years with a 90 lumen light with no issues. That's plenty in true dark. The issue is that in a half-lit situation you often need more light to show contrast -- finding a screw dropped under something, the insides of cabinets, that sort of thing. Getting up to 300+ in short...

    Older Celestron at Pawn Shop

Hi guys, A local pawn shop has a Celestron 51007, which is a waterproof 62mm 20 x 60 with ED glass. It looks about the right size for spotting 200 yards or so, but I wanted to find out more about it and tried online and drew a big blank. It's marked at $200 and I can haggle a bit, but I don't...

    Early Universal M1 Carbine (99%+ for $599)?

I have a later Universal that came with a fancy sporter stock was drilled and tapped for a scope mount. It runs beautifully.

An article on why to woods carry...

Out here in liberal WA, I'd say there's the 'woods' and there's forest land. By that I mean that homeless people tend to stay near cities and support networks. They usually don't have reliably running cars with recreational amounts of gas (if they have a vehicle at all), they rely on food banks...

Short barreled rifle vs long barreled pistol??

The targets were clustered at a good distance and the fast-cycling low reciprocating mass of the bolt coupled with the relatively heavy weight of the firearm effectively took recoil out of the equation. I never had to swing the thing much which would have made the length awkward. Plus I could...

Short barreled rifle vs long barreled pistol??

What about this: I used to have a Ruger 10/22 with a Butler Creek folding stock and a carbon fiber barrel and wanted to enter it into our club's pistol competition. My reasoning was that, since once a rifle is always a rifle, removing the stock only got me in trouble legally if it shortened the...
