    Fallkniven F1 vs. RAT?

You can't go wrong with the F1 for a (almost) 4" belt knife. I love mine and their Laminated VG10 is great stuff. I did get some very small chips in the first 1" from the tip. However a couple of passes on a diamond hone took them right out.I followed that with a few passes on some 1000 grit...

Need help picking out some knives

Can't help with the folder, don't use them unless its a SAK. Can't help with the Kukuri either, I am an axe/hatchet/folding saw guy. For this though... It matters (to me) if this will be paired with the Kukuri. For me, I usually carry a knife for a certain use. When I expect a knife to...

    My 1st KA-BAR!

What he said. :D:D:D:D:D True. But I didn't know the lore of the KA-BAR name till I was an adult.:neener: So.... when a very young woodsbum, when I would come across fresh scat ,and get that "you are being watched feeling" my trusty KA-BAR (or BSA hatchet,or Cub Scout knife) would come...

    Stainless Steel Opinions

I do prefer carbon steels, but can live with stainless.:) On folders sometimes I prefer stainless. For my fixed blades the only stainless one I use is my laminated VG10 Fallkniven F1.I find that it performs well for my needs. My sons little Buck 102 Woodsman isn't a slouch in outdoors use...

    A Couple New Traditional Knives

Ditto. From the sparse reports I have seen they tend to perform well, after a little tweaking. I hope they work out the supply issues soon. Every time I place an knife or gear order I check to see if any Condors are in stock to add to it. Seems they never are :( Nice little Nessmuk trio...

Putting your knife through its paces

Because it isn't abuse. I have yet to have a knife break on me, however I don't buy crappy knives anyway. I am not a normal knife user either, my EDC doesn't do just hum-drum twine or paper cutting. But will they fit in my pocket? I don't always venture out with a daypack. This is...

    Favorite blade?

Easy no brainer for me. I have a few knives laying around but this one is by far my favorite. I have carried this one every single day for (almost) a year. It cuts everything that needs to be cut, I have batoned it, and it has been used for prying (light:o) when I have been to lazy to run...

Putting your knife through its paces

OK you win.:o:D But seriously,to anyone else reading this. If you want/need an axe/hatchet. The mentioned Fiskars,Wetterlings,GB will all do the job at differant price points. Now ...back to knife testing. I am curious as to what the rest of you do/don't do.:)

Putting your knife through its paces

Gee..how did I know someone would pick up on that one little word,baton??:what::D While I never need to do it. I find it a reliable test of a knife's strength. And it is fun. I see your puny plastic Fiskars.....and raise you a Hickory Wetterlings.:neener:

Putting your knife through its paces

Yes there are. I carry fixed blades ,my one user folder is a SAK. My hobbies all include the outdoors so my knife choices are geared to woods stuff. I take any new knife outside to play. If I need to I will sharpen to my liking then make fuzzsticks, baton , start a fire w/ferro rod...

How does this Schrade Multi-tool rate?

For what its worth Schrade died in 2005. The stuff marked Schrade now is made for Taylor Brands, who purchased the rights to use Schrade's old trademarks (among others). Most of this new stuff is made off shore and not up to the old Imperial Schrade Corp's standards.

    Carry a Mora????

Knifekits.com, about $10 for a 12X12 sheet (bought two) with grommets (didn't use), premade belt loop (didn't use), and chicago screws (used two on my belt loop). 300 degrees for ten minutes. Pressed for ten minutes. I should get 5, maybe 6 sheaths out of what I bought.

    Carry a Mora????

Why not? :) Well, because the factory sheath leaves a lot to be desired.:( I LOVE my 840 MG Clipper. But it stays in my pack do to the loose fitting crappy sheath. I know there are leather makers and Kydex benders out there who can fix you up. But as I am frugal I wasn't about to spend...
