The model 52 comes in 3 basic variations
S&W 52 - convertable to single/double action - long extractor that is somewhat subject to break and very hard to find replacement - some of the very best work by S&W - will not accept under barrel weight
S&W 52-1 - trigger converted to single action...
The RWS 34 break gun is great but if a serious problem, going to PCP in .22 cal gives the velocity (rabbit/squirrel and some have used them on groundhogs) and fast follow-up shots with no recoil (scope damage with break guns) and if sleeved, little noise. They are accurate out past 75 yards.
The 218 Mashburn Bee (near the 222 Rem range), the 219 Zipper (in the 223 range), and the great 222 Rem are three worth looking at. Single shot, leaver action (Marlin and Winchester) and bolt guns.
