    This .44spl load ok??

According to Lyman 49, it's hot. Their data for 4227 with a 240 gr. lead bullet in .44 SPL is 12.7 starting load to 14.2 max. They also have data for the traditional Keith bullet, #429421 at 245 grains, with a start charge of 11.7 and a max of 14.7. Where did you get your data?

    38 and 357s

No problem! Nothing wrong with slowing down and being careful. I do agree with the comment about working in batches. Get 50-100 or however many cases on loading blocks and size them all, prime them all, expand them all, etc... at the same time. This is expecially beneficial for charging, as...

    38 and 357s

I don't think you have much to worry about there. Sounds like you've got a good, safe process down for someone starting out. You'll speed up as you get more comfortable. You can't get much more thorough than weighing a charge, charging the case, and immediately seating the bullet. Little room...

    19-4 reloads

Probably my favorite gun to shoot is my 4" M66 no-dash (same gun, stainless instead of blued). I have two 158 gr. mild/mid 357 loads that shoot great in it. One is Hornady's swaged 158 swc over 4.8 grs. Unique. This is a super-accurate load and does about 950 fps. The other is MBC's 357 Action...

Viht. N110 in .357 Mag: primer choice

Hmm, that is interesting. Their current online data shows small rifle, and I thought the book I was looking at was the most current...but maybe not. A VV manual is about the only one I don't have because their powders really hard to find around here. Probably time to get one... The data in...

Viht. N110 in .357 Mag: primer choice

Glad to hear some have had success with the small rifle primers. Will it matter much which SRP I go with? I've never used them in any pistol loadings. I have Remington 7 1/2's and CCI 400s on hand. Loads will be shot in a GP100 with stock trigger. Not sure if they will ignite reliably or not...

Viht. N110 in .357 Mag: primer choice

Thanks, Walkalong. Besides the less than expected velocity, how did the load act? Did it burn completely? Any pressure signs?

Viht. N110 in .357 Mag: primer choice

I finally came across a pound of Vihtavuori N110 powder to work up some 125 and 158 gr. jhp loads with. I've started looking at the data and am finding a lot of discrepancies, both with charge weight, which is to be expected, but also with what type of primer to use. Vihtavuori's 2006 manual...

    Primer Brands for Handguns

To answer your questions, Magnum primers are simply made to burn a little hotter and a little longer than standard primers in order to better ignite some harder-to-light powders, or for better ignition in extremely cold weather. In the calibers you've listed, you generally won't need magnum...

    Ruger 44mags

Yep the main difference in blackhawks and redhawks is the action. I have a 7.5" redhawk and it is an incredibly tough and good-shooting gun. It'll handle full-power loads all day without a hitch. One thing you might want to keep in mind between the redhawk and super redhawk though is the...

    Primer Brands for Handguns

Like others, I've used all the major primer brands with success. Winchester, CCI, Remington, and Federal have all done the job. For small pistol, I lean towards CCI and Federal, simply because they function the best in my Hornady hand-priming tool. Win and Rem for some reason like to occasionaly...

what is your favorite powder for 150 grain bullet in 30-06?

I use Hornady 150 Gr. SST's in my Rem 700. Best load I've found is 51.0 grains of IMR 4064 with Fed 210 primers. Super accurate and gives about 2875 fps at the muzzle (24" bbl). Also had good success with Varget and 150 grainers in that gun. Good luck!

Primer question: Rem 2 1/2 similar to WLPs?

I know they're both large pistol. I'm wondering if the Remingtons are applicable for standard and magnum loads, like the Winchester large pistols are. I'm getting ready to load 240 gr. XTPs in .44 mag with H110, and my Hodgdon 2011 shows these Rem 2 1/2 primers with all their .44 mag data. I...

    someone with a sierra manual

Sierra 5th shows 180 gr. bullets with IMR-4831: 50.1 for 2400 fps (start) 52.0 for 2500 fps 53.9 for 2600 fps 55.8 for 2700 fps 57.7 for 2800 fps (max) This is out of a 26" bbl with Fed 210 primers.
