I need a refresher course in M39 mosin Nagants.

Haven't read the whole thread so forgive me if someone had already mentioned this but isn't the rear sight of the Mosin Nagant graduated in arshins? Been out of Mosins for a year or so but I do recall something about this. An Arshin is I think 28 inches. I also recall something about a factory...

Universal v. Winchester M1 Carbine designs?

I had what you could call a gen 2 Universal and it was a pretty decent little shooter. If you follow the progression of Universal carbines, this would be the first run with the cut away for the bolt cam on the right side of the receiver and a set screw on the back of the charging handle. Also...

Anyone else love the smell of Hoppe's #9

This made me laugh. I say "Hop's" but I'm sure I'm wrong to the "Hop-ezz" folk. Not that it matters at all. I am of the opinion that the cleaning of the guns is part and parcel of the entire shooting experience. I don't find it altogether unpleasant any more than say, policing my brass, packing...

    Bolt Action Surplus Rifles

It's been said in numerous posts so I am just going to pile on... I don't think there's anything as sweet to be had for the money as a Lee Enfield. Ive got a handful of old milsurp rifles but the SMLE seems to get grabbed every range day. Also, I'm seeing Turkish Mausers popping up locally. I've...

What is the last gun that you bought?

1942 Maltby Lee Enfield No. 4 Mk 1. Gunbroker 175.00. Should be here Friday. It's been sporterized but luckily the barrel has not been cut and nobody decided to drill and tap it for glass. I plan on putting it back into original configuration and at least trying to make it somewhat period...

Would you support the No Fly No Buy List if they added Due Process?

Nope. It's been stated here several times but if you're "too dangerous" to fly, you shouldn't be walking around. I haven't heard that the Orlando shooter was even on it anyway. Again, another "solve" that wouldn't have changed a thing. How about instead of gun control, we look at situation...

Indicators A Part Is About To Break?

Good topic! A few weeks back, I was shooting my Garand at my local range. I noticed right away my groups were opening up maybe about twice as wide as I've been getting consistently before that. Now, I have been having some problems with the rear sight coming loose. Checked that. Nope. I started...

Funniest things you've heard customers say?

Great stuff on here. The past few days have been a hoot on THR listening to your stories on what dealers/ customers say. Was thinking about the whole clip vs. magazine thing. I may go into my LGS and ask if they've got any new "magazines" for my AK pattern. The 5th grader in me still wants to...

Worst lines you've heard from gun sellers?

I think I would enjoy that thread very much.

Band of Brothers on all day. HBO

I didn't see it mentioned above but if you subscribe to Amazon Prime you can stream BOB or The Pacific for free on demand. I revisit each of them frequently. Much to my girl's chagrin

New to the Garand, few questions

As to sighting in, YouTube has some wonderful historical films from US Army about how to use the rear sight. Circa 1942. Pretty easy to follow and understand. Enjoy your Garand. I plan on taking mine out tomorrow. Also, I did not see this in the OP but be aware that many types of modern 30.06...

NPR: Does carrying a pistol make you safer

Call it cowering. I call it seeking cover. I guess the difference is the ability to throw back something other than pleas.

An interesting story at the doctors office

Forgive me for not reading through to the end but this is devolving quickly. I see a lot of people arguing over the mechanics of various platforms. Glocks. 1911 et al. This is steadily drifting away from the point. Stay safe and think!!!!! Gosh darn it, these are tools and we can argue all day...

    Springfield M1a first time out

Update: Spoke with SA and explained the problem. The rep put me on hold for a few minutes and when she returned she told me the tech wants to see the rifle. She immediately took my info and emailed me a shipping label. Said it would be 2-4 weeks. Next, I called the LGS where I purchased it...

    Springfield M1a first time out

It is a good feeling! Same reaction I get with my Garand. I mentioned the guys to either side were helping me out. One knew a thing or two about M14s and even offered to meet up with me to get me started with reloading! Some nice people you meet on the firing line indeed.
