Sadly yes. I've found it necessary to sell off many pieces of my collection. I was unemployed from 2008 thru 2011. I found it necessary to part with 3/4 of my collection, firearms taking over 15 years to accumulate.
I needed the cash to survive.
I know where you're speaking from. I too I'm guilty of it to some extent. When I first started out I over researched everything. The whole 9 vs. 40 vs. 10 vs. 45 stopping power thing. I won't even get into SA vs TDA vs DAO that I agonized over.
In the end I settled on a 10mm S&W. It was...
It's fear. Some people realize they need to be re-elected in the future. The Colorado example (recall) is for politicians that actually believe progressive propaganda.
Sustained firing of an overbore cartridge will cause accelerated wear of the feed throat. Basically, they will obliterate the start of the rifling.
Two calibers know for trashing barrels that way are the .22-250 and the .220 Swift.
I'd never buy:
S&W Scandium revos - They are too light.
Taurus - spotty Q/C at best
Glock of any model - They simply don't feel 'right' in my hand, too blocky. I prefer a longer trigger reach and grip.
Any class III firearm - Who can afford to feed them?
I've used CCI Green Tag, RWS Subsonics and put away a couple of bricks of Federal Olympic Match.
The reason you see it on shelves is that is it fairly expensive. It's over 2.5x the price of bulk fodder people use as blasting ammo...
$300 won't get you much these days. Marlin Mod 60 or maybe a S&W 22A.
Bump that up to say $450-500, you're getting into 3rd Gen Smith and Wesson Range. Many others in the used market can be had in that range.
I read a review on the BFR .45/70 when they first came out. The author couldn't fire another handgun for six months after his BFR shooting session. Too many strained ligaments and bruised muscles in his hands.
I's pass on 45/70 handguns....
