Had my fun with big magnums (300wthby, 30-378wthby, 50bmg) and in last year have gone back to 308 for all manner of fun, particularly competition. BIg guns are fun for a while but they do wear on you. Got tired of my shoulder being sore all the time. Got over the big magnum handgun thing too...

Biggest diff is 25-06 is long action, 243 is shoart action. If you want a carbine length, get the 243. Wanna hit further out? Get the 25-06.

If I want confidence to go bang, FAL. If I want accuracy, AR10. My AR 10 is scoped and will do 1/2moa, my HB scoped FAL is 1.5 moa. Past 200M the AR10 wins, but that's just me.

Suppressed 45-70 yeah..why? Cause it's a heavy bullet and low velocity...500g at 1050 should be nice and quiet, and still 1000lb-ft energy.

Well, I was thinking the same thing...just bought a used 45-70 guide gun for $350 with 3 boxes ammo. Don't think you can get much cheaper. Maybe a NEF single shot ($250) and a Simmons scope and mount ($150)?

Well, basically the 155g is for long barrels (30" plus) and long range. The BC is quite good and with a long barrel the velocity advantage makes out better than the 168 and 175g. In M1s or M1As, or other short barrel rifles, you will actually lose perf against the 168s and 175s.

I think you have a bigger problem than the Weatherby question if the neighbors are complaining from that far away (1/2 mile=~1000yds). It can't be that it's waking them up, should sound only like a small pop from that far. I think all rifle calibers would be a problem, and agree that you would...

I cannot say from experience but having discussed this before, I ahve found that an existing chrome barrel cannot be cut down due to the chrome plating's propensity to chip due to its hardness. The barrel crown could never be cut properly.

I believe you have to heat that puppy good and hot to do the chrome plating, basically screwing up things that were not designed to survive a chrome plating process. Also, it's cheap to do as part of a std manuafcture process, but for just your rifle I think it would be too expensive. Bore...
