Smith and Wesson had an SW45 based on the Walther P99AS. Its striker fired but the action is a little "unique" and very nice. Not sure if its considered a double action but I believe it has a second strike capability on a hard primer. They stopped making them many moons ago but you still find...
It looks to me like you've got one of the earlier Compacts with the barrel bushing. I've always wanted one of those. Newer Champions (like my Champ Operator) come with a bull barrel that is ramped to boot. Not sure I like the bull barrel but the ramp is a plus in aluminum framed guns IMHO...
+1 on the used USP. I picked up a up a barely used stainless USPc45 the other day just at $500. I dropped an LEM kit in it and it shoots like a dream. Some places are discounting them because they are "old" technology compared to the HK45. I overheard a sales guy the other day who is always...
P7
Its been mentioned once but the HK P7 is completely ambidextrous and completely safe till you grip it. No thumb safety (I really don't see the need for one on this gun) and not DA/SA but its worth a look if you've got the scratch.
Don't forget Springfield. My Lightweight Champion Operator might fit your needs. Nice and carry-able and its got a rail for HD purposes. If you're looking for a "do it all" single gun, it might be the one. IMHO its a much better option than a Kimber.
I've heard good things about the RIA guns. Here are a few links http://www.jgsales.com/product_info.php/p/rock-island-armory-1911a1-csp-3-5in-45acp-new/products_id/3741 , http://www.jgsales.com/product_info.php/p/rock-island-armory-1911a1-sc-3-5in-45acp-new/products_id/2937 ...
If you've only got one hand available and got a bad grip on your Glock you might be able to get a shot off but you'll be doing a one handed clearance of the resulting stovepipe. They are very susceptilble to limp wrist jams.
"Really, the only difference that I run into shooting the two of them is the magazine release. I like the Mark III's position quite a bit more than the Mark II's. /shrug"
Getcherself a MkII 22/45. Its the best of all worlds IMHO. They're still around...I found one last year LNIB for $219!!!
"Is it an optical illusion, or is the slide really wide on the P-07?"
I handled one the other day and I came away with the same impression. I love my P-01 and went in willing to plunk down $$ for the P-07 but I left unimpressed and with the cash still in my wallet.
1911forum.com reports that Dan Wesson will make fewer CBOBs next year and will be selling them in California only. They will make commander sized bobtailed guns but the CBOB will, supposedly, be a California only gun. Price increase incoming as well. Get 'em while they're hot...I got mine!
If you want a CBOB get it now! Talk on 1911forum.com is that they will only make CBOB's as you and I know them for the ...wait for it...California market. There will be Bobtailed Commander sized guns (one even with an aluminum frame which I might have to get) but the "CBOB" will only be for...
