Weatherby mark V deluxe in 300 wby with leupold vx3 3.5 x 10 scope.
Tack driver that i don't stress every little scratch it may possibly get in the field. I still take care of it and it still looks in great condition.

Savage 30-06 w/3x9 leupold as a second and for my boy's first-time hunt in NM later this year.

Rarely hunt deer with a centerfire rifle since it's not permitted in my state, but when hunting other states I use a Colt Sauer .270 with Swarovski glass. In my home state use a 50 cal Knight Blackpowder with Swarovski glass.

This rifle has been to Africa at least twice that I know of. When I got it, it had an old Lyman Alaskan scope on it, and a peep sight snuggled right behind the real scope base. Like many rifles of that era, it has a replacement bolt -- the original "dolls head" safety wouldn't clear a low-mounted scope and the cure was usually to replace the bolt with a later version.

Son -in -law laid claim to my Savage 243 so I bought a Rem 700. Never shot a deer with the Savage and was a little worried about the caliber. I must say that I am impressed. It is super accurate and a 95 gr Federal Fusion does a number on a whitetail. I shot a doe standing straight on and got the most awesome bloodtrail that I have ever seen. She had a tennisball sized hole in her chest and liver. The lungs were mush and she still went 30 yards. Left a bloodtrail that a blind man could follow. It was 2' to 3' wide most of the distance.

I'm starting to become a dedicated crossbow hunter this year. Gun deer season opened a couple of weeks ago and I've not even bothered. I'm spending my time chasing ducks and geese this year since I joined a waterfowl club. Part of the reason is my little freezer is full. I really need a bigger freezer. Already had hogs in it, then shot a 7 point large bodied buck with my crossbow and filled it up. Part of the reason is the rut occurs here during bow season and is about over by the time gun season comes around. Part of the reason is I REALLY like sitting in my tree stand and being up close to the wildlife with mild temperatures rather than huddling over the heater in my box blind. LOL!

I think I already stated my go to rifle in this thread earlier, my stainless M7 Remington in .308. I haven't taken it out of the safe since last year, but have been playing with my crossbow a lot! :D

Whats your deer hunting Rifle

For the thick and heavy woods I used my/his Winchester 94 Scout .44 mag.
For the limited open area's my Grandson used my/his H&K G3
Two deer Taken one 8 point one 6 inch spike
Both clean one shot and drop kills
I tagged the spike my hunting partner (Grandson) tagged his 8 pointer

This year's rifle of choice was a 700 Remington BDL in .243, shooting Horandy American Whitetail ammo featuring a 100 gr Interlock bullet. Dee was shot about 250-275 yards, through the heart lungs and nicked the liver....ran 100 yards before he realized he was dead, but then fell in a pile and never wiggled again

If I was allowed to choose only one rifle to do it all, it would be my Cooper bolt action .30-06. The caliber .30-06 is likely to be one of the most versatile and all-purpose calibers I am aware of, plus offers tons of reloading choices and supplies.
