Small .22 &.25 autos

Confederate, thanks for sharing. Nice pictures. Glad to hear also a bit of Jennings support (as well as mousegun support in general.) I have had mine since 1987, and it's always been a fun and reliable shooter (with quality ammo, such as MiniMags.)

Yes, the Jennings J-22 is a peach. The reason you can't get them anymore is that they're zinc. Only the barrel lining was steel, and some internal parts (more than enough to alert a metal detector). The little guns worked well, as did their zinc cousins, the Raven 25s. But the gun banners objected to their inexpensive prices, not taking into consideration the needs of those who don't have the means of buying better quality firearms for defense in neighborhoods that many times are more dangerous than the gated communities and quiet neighborhoods of those with gun-laden safes and the means of buying Rugers, Smith & Wessons and other expensive, top quality brand pistols.

But all twenty-twos suffer from dirty residue. My Jennings has been unerringly reliable until it becomes gunked up with unburned powder. Then it jams. So I pop the top, use a dry toothbrush to clean out the powder, then I put the slide back on and viola! I can shoot another three mags.

Nice mouse gun collection and as always it's great to see a distant relative: your Model 70S twin that is!

Wow...after seeing that gun I had to go check mine to see if it was still there! To coin a phrase, “She looks
just like Roxie!“ Where'd you have yours done?

Largest and Smallest .25 ACP

Walther made the smallest .25, slightly smaller than the Baby Browning.

Anybody know of a .25 any larger than the Mauser 1914 ?

Earlier, I mentioned that my Bauer was malfunctioning. Manually racking the slide would cock the striker and feed a round. Upon firing, the round would eject, but the striker wouldn't cock. This resulted in the firing pin (which functions as ejector in the Baby) extended from the breech face, blocking the fresh cartridge from rising up and chambering.

I tried everything I could, analyzing every aspect of operation and design which could cause such a malfunction. Each time, I would try incremental adjustments, and test fire, resulting in the same jam.

A friend on another board gifted me a Bauer internal parts set, and I completely stripped the little pistol.

Working on a tiny pistol like a Baby requires a lot of patience, especially when replacing tiny parts in tiny places under spring pressure, and putting tiny pins back in.

I also ordered a new striker, recoil spring, firing pin spring, and cocking pin assembly.

Finally, success. 50rds fired at the range with zero failure. The little Bauer is a blast when it works, and seven rounds can be fired fairly quickly.

Even though the sights are largely decorative, I fired for accuracy at 7yds...the results weren't bad:

So, after an unintentional course in Browning Baby mechanics, I now consider myself to be a fully qualified Browning Baby armorer.

Largest .25 ACP

Re: Post #57, I suppose the Jo-Lo-Ar is probably the largest, but one of the least accessible due to collector demand and value.
What is the largest popular and available .25? I would guess a Beretta or a Ruby.
The is not in my field. Somebody share info, please. I'm slowly twisting in the wind.:uhoh:

I had a Beretta 21A in .25acp 20 years ago. Jam-o-matic. Sold it off and bought a J-frame S&W. A couple of years ago a friend as looking to sell off a Beretta 950BS. I bought I and have been pretty pleased. Seems to always work and easy to carry in the pocket. As far as the .25acp, well, it's better than a pointy stick.

Yu guys have some seriously nice mouse guns.

The only one I have that is similar is an FIE (tanfoglio) titan II, in 22LR. I got it for next to nothing! Its not bad looking, and feels very nice in the hand.
But its a total POS, and is impossible to find parts for!

If you want to go gray, trying to polish a turd...an FIE titan II is what ya want.

Would you believe I have had younger folks that thought the bill was not real?

I'll just take my DW Razorback 10 MM and set it on a well done twice sized dollar bill. Heh heh

Model 9. I have one missing a lot of parts, and they are expensive because they are somewhat rare.

Looks good. I'd own either an original or one of the PSA clones
I may not understand the word clone, the PSA BB's are license produced BB's. I do not believe the quality of the Baby Browning was ever exceeded anywhere in the world over those produced by PSA. I wish I could afford one of his SS models, but they are expensive, to rich for my blood.

Dino,

Our 1908s were made the same year. Interesting to think they may have been in the plant at the same time, side by side.

This is my wife's Colt 1908 Vest Pocket .25 ACP, made in 1909. The finish appears to be original, but I can't be certain. Its in excellent condition for its age.

Its definitely a fun gun to shoot, and it has actually been 100% reliable. God bless John Moses Browning  ! Interestingly, one of the most reliable semi autos I've had. Then again, this isn't a carry gun for us because (1) it likely isn't drop safe and (2) the accuracy in our hands is pretty poor :p . Its tough to keep even half the rounds fired on a paper plate at 5 yards. But it is still a wonderful little gem that we will never part with.

All I have today in small is a Bersa 380 and an N E F 22 revolver. But back in the day before the first divorce I had a 948 Berretta 22 and a colt 25. Miss those more than the first wife.

Of all the small 22 pistols I own, these have been the most reliable. In fact, I dont ever remember a malfunction from either pistol. I have shot so many different brands, and types of ammo from the 2213, and it runs like a swiss watch. I havent owned the 2214 nearly as long, but it runs just as well, so far.
+ one, my 2214 has been flawless with good ammo like CCI I have ran thousands of rounds thru S&W 422 and 2214's with no malfunctions, yes I keep them clean.
If you use crap ammo like Remington or Winchester and some Federal you will have FTF's.
