Hello,

I'm letting myself daydream about one day getting a nice break open side-by-side or over-and-under rifle with two sets of barrels, one set being 12 or 20 guage, the other being a big bore with enough punch for cape Buffalo (at least .375).

I don't do a lot of shotgunning (at all), and I don't do a lot of hunting of game that requires more than .308, but for those occasions, it would be very cool to have a universal multitool that looks and feels great.

What factory guns have this capability? Most makers seem to sell their guns as either shotguns or doubles or combination rifles.

A nice double rifle will run into really big money. I don't know anyone that mKes both but I guess if you have that cash for a nice double rid you can afford to have someone make a set of shotgun barrels for it too.

The other option for about 1/10 the cost would be to find one of the Baikal double rifles and then buy a decent SxS shotgun.

Here's how Krieghoff does it:

Searched the uninet (includes all planets in the universe, not just the earth's internet) for commerial side-by-side combination and couldn't find one. Here's a link on a side-by-side shotgun being converted to a double rifle:

There were a few Winchester 21 shotguns whose extra set of barrels were relined with rifle cartridges common in double rifles. I was told Rigby made a few shotgun barrel sets for their double rifles years ago.

The problem with Krieghoff's offering is that it maxes out at 9,3x74R. That makes it insufficient for cape Buffalo in quite a few countries.

i used a 9.3x62 for a cape buffalo cow last july with no problems at at all eastbank.

You could snag a valmet 412/512. I had one with 12ga. Barrels and 9.3x74r barrels. This is what you want. About $2500 with a scope mount in 2004. They also made rifle/shot gun combo barrel sets. Marrochi makes it now as the finnclassic. Good luck finding an importer.

lol I'm not rich enough to even be thinking about day draming about an H&H rifle... a .375 is practically the same size as a 9,3, but much more allround because of legal reasons. It shouldn't be so hard to make a rifle that does .375 and 12 or 20 ga with a different set of barrels.

Been thinking about picking up a Merkel myself. I've seen them under $8000 new. Handled a .500NE at the NRA show and was heartily impressed.

Krieghoff, Searcy, Chapuis, Heym and many others...

Just order a set of shot bbls when you order the DR, in what ever cal./cartridge you prefer.....and yes they do chamber them for bigger than 9.3x74R.

Keep in mind, shotgun stocks are set up and fit a person a lot different than a rifle is.

The difference in pressure makes it not real practical to make a combo gun.
