I'm close to having my CCW. I have lots of defensive firearms training which I've done with instructor style belts with Bladetexh own holsters at 4 o'clock. This has worked well.

In anticipation for CCW I ordered a Milt Sparks VM2 IWB holster and a 1.5" Milt Sparks belt. I also good duty belt suspenders to keep my pants up. It hurt at 4 o'clock (which surprised me as OWB was so comfortable there). Also it seemed to hang pretty bad away from body.

I moved the set up to 5 o'clock and pain was gone and it fits snug and close to the body. Sitting in chair and car was comfortable as well. Anyone else carry this far back? Anything else I should be aware of that may not be obvious?

I will practice the draw stroke to get used to it. Moving the clothes was a bit harder this far back but practice will help. I did like that this far back I can reach behind with my left hand and access firearm if need be.

I'm 6' and 320 lbs (i.e. fat). Yes I'd like to change that. Based on size I do have long shirts that will provide great untucked coverage of the firearm.

I'll move mine to 5:00 when working from home or even driving, but when I'm up and about, that 2:00-3:00 area conceals better for me. I find the handle protruding too much at 5:00 for confident concealment. To each, his own. Ohio has open carry, so printing isn't a big legal issue. I just prefer to keep my business, my business.

Usually depends on the gun and holster choice but sometimes I go with a 5 o'clock carry for better comfort and concealment.

You have to work with your holster and find out what's most comfortable to you. 5:00 is probably the very farthest to the rear I'd consider, but anywhere between 3:30 to 5:00 is perfectly fine, depending on your body, gun, holster, clothes, etc.

Iam more like 7:30 Oh I am left handed . I had a Milt Sparks summer spcial for my 1911 I found it didn't conceal well for me and uncomfortable. I sold next owner a local cop sold it shortly their after same reason After sold again I lost track of it.
Most my carry holsters are now made by UBGholsters.com Never had any trouble with his.

I have a friend that carries his 1911 in a Milt Sparks at the small of back postion, it seems uncomfortable to me, but to each his own. Personally, I carry my pistol 3:30-4, right behind my hip-bone. I have a skinny, muscular build so it might vary for you.

4:30-5:00 for me. I'm thin but with some slightly loose love handles and 4:00 is uncomfortable and prints badly on my frame. I also prefer how the flat of the grip lays against my body when worn further behind me than 4:00. More comfortable when sitting.

Similar here. I end up around 4:30 or 5 usually. It conceals best and allows me to sit comfortably in a car.

Thanks! My Model 638 in a DeSantis SOF-TUCK holster. Very comfortable and quite flat at the 4:30 to 5:00 position.

I should also say thanks to all the lefties. I don't know of an easy way (I can come up with a way just not easy) to describe it universally. Well, I suddenly do, I could have said 5 o'clock for righties, 7 o'clock for lefties.

I frequently carry IWB at around 4:30-5. It's surprising how much difference a 1/4" shift to the front or back can make, though.

It has been five o'clock IWB carry for me since the seventies. 1911s ride quite well for me in that position.

After years of periodically trying, different guns, holsters, I've just decided I can't do IWB. I guess in or toward the back, it would beat Mexican carry, something else I don't do.

5 is too far back for me. Not comfortable in many chairs/when driving, grip pokes shirt out more easily, farther to reach

Depends on my weight. When I'm down to 180#, 3:00 is perfect. Add a couple #'s and it moves back to 4:00. After the holidays around 190# I'm at 5:00 at which point sitting down is less attractive than standing. Joe

The only problem I have encountered carrying in this manner (4:00 o'clock or so) is with some open back chairs in restaurants. The bars of the chair tend to hook the butt of a handgun. Otherwise, most comfortable way to carry.

the proper cant of the gun in its holster can make a big difference on where it is comfortable to carry IWB.

I prefer a 2 o'clock position when carrying with an IWB holster. Like mentioned above the cant of the gun will allow for more comfort and/concealment. I have worn holsters at the 4/5 o'clock position. I was always worrying I was printing so I switched to a 2 o'clock
