Gents:

I'm seeking opinions as to a quailty, tough trigger group. Something that is smoother and lighter than you're average single stage, and which can stand up to abuse. Any thoughts?

You’ll probably get lots of opinions but here’s my 2 cents… I guess it really depends on what kind of shooting you do. I’m just a plinker so a good option for me was the ALG which is the sister company of Geissele. I have a Geissle SSA and the $60 ALG Advanced Combat Trigger which I now prefer over the Geissle SSA. I recently did a budget build and used the Rock River Arms trigger that came with the LPK and it works nicely right out of the box but YMMV

Another vote for Geissele.

I have one on my competition AR and it worlds different than the stock (yet stoned and polished) trigger group on my other AR.

Where do you get a milspec semi-auto only trigger group?

While not truly mil-spec, an AR trigger group performs roughly to the same standard. They are available from dozens of places online. Most people get them as a part of their lower parts kit.

I'd recommend you start with an ALG ACT if you are looking for something single stage, a bit better than mil-spec, but not a full blown match trigger.

The Geissele SSA is pretty much the standard.

ALG ACT is an improvement over a GI trigger, but not a big one. I have several and am not real impressed.

The Hiperfire EDT, a cheaper and less complicated trigger from Hiperfire, seems like a solid basic design, and has a much better trigger pull than a GI or ACT trigger, for $85 at JoeBob's.

Jard makes a single and a 2 stage trigger... they go down to 1 1/2lb pull... and the single stage adjustable feels exactly like a bolt gun trigger! I will be getting one of these

If you aren't shooting hard-primer mil-spec ammo exclusively, the least expensive ALG with a JP Enterprises spring kit is nothing short of spectacular. Wouldn't recommend the combo for a 'working' gun but punching paper, plinking and varmint hunting with a 2.5-3.5# trigger is ideal for me. Use Lucas' synthetic after some 600-grit polishing for the lighter pull weight.

I've used the ALG and while it's ok, a full-fledged Geissele is better. Wait for them to go on sale somewhere and get a Geissele. It's gonna hurt, but it's both tough and smooth.

I had a KAC match trigger in my DMR that was great. Ive shot a few Geissele and they are also fantastic. In my opinion the Geissele is the best AR trigger on the market. However they are pricey.

On the cheaper end but still better than a standard trigger you have ALG. Also a newcomer to the game and I got one of the first is the new Sionics enhanced trigger. Very similar to the ALG ACT for the same price. Mine is crisp.

I've got ALG ACT triggers in three AR's and I like them. They break cleanly, don't cost much, and since it's a mil-spec type trigger you know it's reliable.

I have not seen a better trigger than the SSA-E. The design is true to the original semi auto parts, so you dont need e clips or special pins or self contained housings. Very clean trigger pull. I dont know how it could be better.

I have a Timney 3lb trigger in mine. Bought it because I'm familiar with their replacement triggers for bolt actions. I also prefer a single stage trigger which the Timney is.

Another vote here for the ALG.

Unless you are a High-power shooter and require the absolute finest in trigger performance the ALG is great.

It's so much different than most stock trigger groups it will make you think you have a high-end trigger installed.

I have been using a Wilson TTU 2-stage in my match rifle. I don't know how well it would perform full of sand or whatever but the build quality appears to be fantastic and robust, and the trigger pull is great.

I've got a Bushmaster with several thousand rounds through it, so it's broken in real nice. When I got a new Colt, it felt like a 3 stage, sandy trigger compared to the broken in Bushmaster.

I replaced the Colt's trigger with an ALG ACT and it was an immediate improvement. Even nicer than the Bushmaster's that was broken in. I eventually replaced the ACT with a Geissele G2S and am now spoiled. Need to get one for every AR.

The ACT is still a quality piece, so I'm hanging on to it and will probably use it for a .22 trainer.
