NcStar scopes

In my experience, (only owned one, came on a gun I bought, but have shot others' guns with them on) I've found much the same as has been reported here. They're fine on .22's, anything bigger and they usually won't hold zero.

Does the NcStar scopes work, yes. Are they any good? Some are. The photos is of my NcStar 6x24-50 MM mounted on my Savage Model 110 in 270 Winchester. What you are looking at is a 5 shot group at 100 yards.

Are there better scopes, yes, but I can not afford them.

.308? I probably wouldn't be looking at NC Star.

Take a look at the Vortex Crossfire II line, or Vortex Diamondback line.

Both are imported optics, but each and every optic that comes in is inspected for collimation, glass quality, defects, operation - the process takes 20 minutes for each optic on average. It cuts down on warranty claims, and allows them to offer a lifetime warranty, including electronics. For example, Leupold offers lifetime warranty, but only 2 years on the electronics in the Gold Ring line. Redfield is the same, 2 years on electronics. If you're not considering an illuminated reticle, there's still the 100% inspection rate to consider.

A little more expensive, but a lot more scope.

Take a look at the Vortex Crossfire II line

I went the crossfire II route on my .308 M1A It lasted ~300 rounds before coming apart.

Also tried the Nikon M308 ($450 scope designed for semi-auto .308's). Reticle started rotating after ~400 rounds.

Both companies replaced at no charge

But now I don't trust these scopes and have bumped them down to the JV squad

Drink cheap beer for a while and buy a Leupold.

Least scope I'll run............Redfield Revolution. Tolerable.
Send it back and for $25 they will adj parallax to 50 yds.

Nice .22 scope then :)

Hookeye, your priorities are goofy...

Drink Guinness, stop eating, save the food budget and buy Vortex.

A man simply MUST have his beer.

My buddy has one on a ruger 10/22 take down. He bought because of the compact design. It doesnt stick out passed the end of the receiver. Its not that great. If you leave it on low power it seems to stay. If you use the zoom feature you have to re-zero

They are a crap shoot and for me not worth the worry I would have about my next shot, especially when shooting a game animal.

FWIW, UTG seems to be a little better quality scopes than NCStar. I have read some very good reviews and youtube videos on the UTG scopes.

I would agree. My RWS 34 air rifle has worn a UTG 4-12x40 AO for years now, and it's held zero even through the abuse the piston dishes out, and the glass is superb. Not sure how they make such a good scope for so cheap.

Optics are one of those areas where dollars does equate to quality, at least to a point. The sweet spot is in the $200-$400 range. Anything with a MSRP much under $200 is going to be questionable, under $100 is asking for trouble. Many work, at least for a while, others don't. Many folks buy these and get years of light duty service out of them, but you just never know. A semi-auto beats up scopes quicker than other types because you really get recoil from 2 directions as the bolt closes as the action cycles.

Once you get to the $200 price point all of them are pretty decent, it just depends on which features you prefer. Paying more, up to about $400, just adds different features and slight improvements in glass. Once you get to the $400+ range you pay huge premiums for very small increases in quality. Or you are paying for special features or very high magnification.
I agree with what you say except for the floor, which I would lower to $150.00. You can get Burris Fullfield II's in 3-9 and 2-7 for under $200.00. They are pretty decent scopes IMO.

Given he vast range of quality optics at reasonable price points (albeit above that of NcStar) I've seen no reason to play with the Chinese budget optics, save from an aimpoint clone from Primary Arms. I'd rather spend a couple bucks more, and realize what I'm paying for, then spend money on what many people classify as not much more than sheer junk
