are gun forums losing their alure?

I look at an internet forum as the old pot belly stove of yesterday’s country store where men would gather to discuss their problems and how to solve them. Alas, you have only their words as their tone and body language are missing.

When you value the opinion of a man, it is often based of his character. It takes time to learn a man’s character and with only words, it takes longer. So you limit the amount of forums you visit and settle on a few that meet your interest and have the character of participants that you learn to respect.

THR is one of those few.

Hmm. Those seem to be mostly missing in my newsfeed,
except for one group that I started.

That's on you in that case as we all tailor our own FB news feeds.

My gun club must have 6-8 individual FB pages for different shooting disciplines. I keep one of them updated. I'm sure I'm a member of at least a half dozen other gun-related FB pages.

reddit has some excellent gun-related pages. Excellent debate on breaking gun news. I follower a few gun-related individuals on Twitter like Tom Gresham.

Second, while there is some good information out there, there is also an enormous amount of absolutely horrendous, terribly incorrect and seriously dangerous information out there. Since it's my field I'm particularly aware of all the really lousy information on legal topics finds it way unchallenged into cyberspace.

As there is here and on every other gun forum websites.

Third, plaintiff lawyers, law enforcement and prosecutors know all about social media and have been learning to use it effectively in civil litigation, criminal investigations and prosecutions. See this article headlined "Bay Area prosecutors increasingly using social media posts in criminal cases" from the 16 August 2013 edition of the Contra Costa Times

And?

I still visit here and GBO but not daily like I used to. When I revisited THR after being away for awhile I too was surprised hiw much lower the numbers were. I'm often the only member reading a given thread. That never used to happen. Activity is lower on GBO as well. I agree part of it is we've covered the most common newbie questions many times over so people can find archived threads through google or whatever and see the results without signing up and posting a thread. Plus social media outlets and phone apps cover a lot of territory now. I still have THR as a shortcut in my phone's browser, it's still special in my book.
