First of all I used CCI V-Max 17 HMR and noticed after the first 10 rounds, that five of the cartridges had to be struck 2-4 times before the round would ignite the rim fire primer. Further I noticed that at least one of the cartridges failed to extract after first activating the bolt.

My questions are, does the firing pin need to be replaced? Is the ammo defective? Or is the chamber of the rifle defective, too much headspace etc?

What if anything is the remedy?

bdrift, Not really as this is the only 17HMR ammo available down here. If I can find some I'll try it, but I thought the CCI was top quality ammo.

Thank you RC, just knew I could count on you, I'll have to try that although I didn't get that little yellow tool to adjust, reckon I'll have to check out my allen wrenches. Thanks again.

BTW RC, the rifle didn't have a Accu-trigger, but did have an allen screw attached to the trigger adjustment. I fiddled with that and figured out how to speed up the firing pin in hitting the rim of the cartridge. Will try it out a little later this morning and see how she fares, as I put a little drop of blue Loc-Tite on the threads. Here's hoping.

I was shooting a Savage 93R17 yesterday using CCI TNT ammo. The last one I shot blew up in the barrel. The brass stuck, the bolt opened about 1 inch and stuck. The head stamp/primer fell out. I live about 3 miles from CCI's Lewiston Idaho plant so I called them. I took the rest of the box over and the 2 retrieved pieces. They are going to analyze them. The gun is on it's way to Savage in MA. A gunsmith told me that's a feature on the Savage- too high of pressure from a bullet and the bolt won't move. A link online said that the TNT won't load correctly in a Savage 93 Magazine: http://reviews.cabelas.com/8815/215109/cci-17-hmr-ammunition-reviews/reviews.htm?sort=rating&dir=asc

Has anyone else had this problem with that ammo? I've shot Hornady and Federal through it with no problem. I have a box of CCI A17 Optimized for 17HMR I haven't opened. I mic'd the A17, 1.335, Hornady VMax 1.345, Fed Prem 1.345 and the TNT 1.345 so I don't see a difference in length.

The 1st guy at CCI tried blaming the extractor on the bolt. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiggghht. Not gonna buy that at all.
