I'm looking for a good plinking revolver. It doesn't need to be a .22, but low recoil would be preferable. I'm on a $200 dollar budget, so keep it cheap.

Heritage Rough Rider.

Decent guns for the money. Very low recoil, pretty accurate. The perfect cheap plinking revolver. These can be had for as low as $125 new in box, and have a good reputation.

Well that was fast. Thanks, I'll look into that!
No problem! :)

These little guns, while very economical, are well liked by a number of folks. I might well get one soon as a camp gun or stash/tackle box pistol, and just for range fun as well.

I think I'll get one as well. Thanks for the suggestion! :)

I got a police trade in Taurus 82 for $200 a couple years ago.

It's a 4" barrel .38 Spcl. It's an all steel gun so recoil is light. Plentiful inexpensive ammo.

It's great. I love it for plinking at the range. The wife keeps it in her nightstand drawer loaded with +P hollow points for HD.

Another good suggestion. Thanks! :)

Doubles as HD, too. I'll look into this one as well.

GunBroker is your friend. There are hundreds of cheap, reliable revolvers out there. 22 is nice. You might want to look at 32 S&W long. No one wants that caliber, so you can get good revolvers for dirt cheap, and it throws a much larger chunk of lead. The recoil is nothing.

Military/police surplus Taurus 80's or 82's are cheap and functional. They might or might not have too much recoil for you.

Looks like a good site. Thanks for the suggestion, too :).

That one looks good as well. Thanks .

you can count on TT..he is all over cheap guns.....knows what he is talking about...

IMHO, the current production Heritage guns are junk. You don't have to spend $600 to have a Ruger single-six or Bearcat either. A little searching through Gunsamerica.com or Gunbroker, plus the pawn shop route should turn up a QUALITY used rimfire revolver.

Another great option at Budsgunshop is the police trade in .38Spl Smith & Wesson revolvers. I think it is only 120 more than your $200 budget, but well worth the price!

Has anyone here used the Taurus 85? While looking at these sites I came across one that had a 100% positive rating, all the reviews were good for it, and it was pretty cheap. I can't find anything about the recoil, though.

Don't rule out a 22Mag. In a handgun, you'll see a flatter shooter and more powerful cartridge than the .22lr. A little loud and a little dirty.

I found a .22lr Rossi 518 a few years ago for $225. About the size of a S&W J-frame. 4" barrel. Stainless steel. Six shot. These were imported in the 1990's by Interarms. A friend liked it so much he was able to find one too for a loaner gun for some of his students.

I have had two 85's. They have both been good. Most people wouldn't call them low-recoil, though.

I have a Heritage 22LR/22Mag with a 6.5" fixed sight barrel. Very accurate, and fun to shoot if you can find ammo.

Meh....I had a rough rider.

The screw stripped out from the recoil apparently on the ejector shroud.....can't say I was super impressed.

It was decently accurate and very cheap though

If you can find an old H&R .22 (the Sportsman, for instance), give it serious consideration. They are made way better than the Heritage stuff and look goofy enough that sometimes you can pick one up on the cheap. They tend to be fantastic shooters though.

Someone else mentioned .32S&W Long. Granted, you can find the actual firearm for not much cash but be prepared to spend a mint on the ammo (that is harder to find than .22lr, btw). If you reload, that might be a good way to go but if you are forced to buy factory ammo, it'll cost you.

Do they still make the Heritage .32 H&R Magnum. That would be a nice 6 shooter if it shoots as good as my .22 LR/ .22 Mag. I have to say that I really like my Heritage, and have shot it a lot. More than a lot.
