A lot will depend on how much of a tax she asks for. Adding a percent or two to the existing sales tax "might" pass constitutional muster.

But ... if it's one of those 50 cent a round taxes, like SFO and other cities have tried, they'll wind up in court with Alan Gura using Minneapolis Star Tribune v County Assessor to SCOTUS against Cook County and "Sensible Shoes Toni".

The resulting 6 or 7 figure $$$ payout by Cook County to NRA/SAF/ISRA for legal fees would just be another excuse to raise property and sales taxes again and blame the gun owners of course.

Like the appellate court told Rahm and his lackeys; "Don't try to be too cute by half" and skirt the constitution.

It solves nothing but diverts attention from the problems that really exist. No opportunity, poor education system, gangs, politically corrupt system. Of course guns would not help the situation. Gun tax makes for good headline.

I live just outside CC and order everything off the net. This is another hit at Cabelas, gun tax now ammo tax. Too bad they couldn't have found a location a mile or so further west.

I know this is a sore subject, and I to feel the pain in my wallet. Im sorry you guys and gals in the windy city areas have the rules you do! We have the flip side of that coin on the west side,same taxes to a point. But we enforce less rules, I will give you a example; A troopers son shot another kid in their home by accident. According to state and fed law, all firearms must be secured from minors. Guess what happened, no punishment for either! Probation for the son,and dad still has his job. It's that balance....
