I found this photoshopped image of what the HK VP striker fired guns might look like as subcompacts. It seems logical that it will have the same grip & use the same magazine as the P30SK.

Who else would like one of these?

I'm intrigued, but I wish HK would make P2000/USPc/G19-sized guns for their VP and P30 series rather than going fullsize/subcompact combo each time.

It took me over six months to get a single H&K VP9 pistol in, and I have not seen another one available again from any of my distributors. A search on Slickguns this morning http://www.slickguns.com/search/apachesolr_search/642230250864 shows no one having a 10-round one in stock, and very, very few 15-round models available http://www.slickguns.com/search/apachesolr_search/642230250857.

If Heckler & Koch make the VP9 out of 'unobtainium', what would they make a subcompact out of? Still ... it is an interesting idea.

Well Heckler & Koch is a small company with 700 employees in Germany, and is up to its ears in controversy in its home country, which has diverted the attentions of HK management. Last year the German government blocked the company's sales to the Saudi government which has hurt their revenues ever since. The German Bundeswehr (Army) just released a report indicting the HK G36 assault rifle for malfunctioning due to overheating during an ambush in Afghanistan in 2010, which resulted the death of three German soldiers. The company confirmed that the G36 had been in service for two previous decades with over 40 different international military customers, and with no documented incidences of malfunctioning due to overheating. HK claimed that these malfunctions were caused by misuse in combat by German military personnel.

The president and principal owner of HK has stated that the financial health of the company depends on sustained increases in sales to the U.S. commercial market, which should increase the availability of HK firearms in the U.S.

Man I got all excited thinking HK gave us all an early Christmas present.

I just recently discovered the quality of HK and believe the VP9 to be head & shoulders above other stricter fired pistols. My only quibble with it at all is it's large for CCW. If HK comes out with either a compact or sub-compact I'll be one of the first in line.

I would be interested in a smaller, more compact version of the VP9 if and when HK can get it to market here in the U.S. Definitely a wait and see situation.

I am guessing there may never be a compact size P30 and VP9. In any case it is easy enough to turn a P30SK into a compact by using the 13 round magazine in it and an X-Grip type adapter with it.

Here is a picture of a P2000SK setup like that. X-Grip is working on getting adapters for the P30SK last I heard for 13 and 15 round magazines.

Don't you think both of these pistols are fairly close in size to a true compact pistol like a Glock 19?

I've never done a side-by-side comparison, but the VP9 felt bigger than the G17, to me. Turned me off of it pretty quickly.

They are pretty much identical. The VP9's slide was slightly thicker though.

For me a G17, is just too big for daily carry. I would carry it if it was work related, but even then I would opt for a different gun if allowed to.
I would more likely go with the G19, or a P30. I would have said a 1911, but not with todays terror threat. Two semi auto hi-cap guns are what makes sense, nd with the same ammo and mags if possible, so if you "had" to choose a 17 for your dept gun, then a 19 as backup would be the way to go. or the same thing with M&P. A 17 round 5 inch and a 12 round 9C. CZ, same thing, "if they allowed it, or FN.
buying 2 H&K pistols could get a little pricy if they are hammer fired models, your looking at close to 2-4 grand plus extra mags holsters, NS, laser etc.

I've done side by side comparisons with the G17, G19, and VP9. The G19 and VP9 are almost the exact same size once you insert the magazine into the G19 because the magazine on the G19 sticks out past the bottom of the grip where on the VP9 the magazine is enveloped by the grip.

I handled a P30SK on Saturday. It was a nice little gun and the trigger was very smooth. If I wasn't happy with my XDs, I probably would have bought it. I'm still curious about a vp model though.

I disagree. The attached picture shows a 23 (same size as 19) over a VP9. It is much closer to a 17 in height.
