Like the title says. I have a basic blued/wood Marlin Model 60 that needs a new scope. I currently have an NC Star 3-9x40 mil-dot on it and it's so mediocre that it's almost unusable. Looking to keep it under $150. So no S&B or US Optics.

I use this rifle for practicing the fundamentals of shooting for groups on a budget (not necessarily plinking per se), and want to be able to hit small targets out to 150 yards max. How important is AO/adjustable parallax? And tell me about factory-set parallax and how it affects scope performance for surgical shots from 10-150 yards.

I'm considering the Bushnell 2-7x32mm AR Optics Drop Zone-22 BDC scope as an option so far. I was also interested in the Vortex Crossfire II 2-7x32mm Dead-Hold BDC scope for similar price but the specs say parallax is factory-set at 100 yards, should that be a deal-breaker? I'm not an expert on scopes.

Whatever I choose, I'm set on having a mil-dot or BDC reticle to use the different aiming points for holdovers depending on the distance to target.

Thanks in advance for answers.

Out of those two, I like the Vortex. Yet, it has a parallax of 100 yards, so not really a rimfire scope. That probably only matters if you shoot tiny object at close range though.

I have the Bushnell you describe, on a Ruger Charger.

Mighty pleased with it - the other scope I was considering at the time of purchase was the Nikon P-Rimfire with the BDC reticle, because of the excellent SpotOn software.

Apologies for crappy cell phone pic:

We were backordered on the Nikon, and I was leaving to shoot things in Tennessee, so I bought the Bushnell.

No regrets, but I have a 10/22 boat paddle all weather that has no optic, and I will be purchasing the Nikon this time around.

My brother has the nikon rimfire and he likes it, it looks like pretty good glass for the price. And the parallax is set for rimfire distances which is good.

That Nikon looks pretty nice too, I'll have to add it to the list. I have a Sportsman's Warehouse local to me that I can go to to look for these scope and see if I can get some hands-on before ordering sight unseen.
