What is the most energetic hand gun caliber you own?

The top dog with respect to all out power in my stable is my 8.375" Raging Bull in 454. Topped off with high octane loads it only takes about 25 or so rounds to be done. That said, the load I have come to enjoy shooting, while still a handful, are the Lee 300gr RF loaded to the mid 1500fps range. They get the job done on anything I am liable to or have so far come across that needed their attention. I have various Contender barrels up to a 30-30 AI, and even though they have a significant pop, they simply aren't in the same ball park as the 454 loaded to top end.

This said however, my main squeeze when I hit the woods is my 7.5" SS Redhawk in 41 magnum. Plenty of everything to go around and easy enough shooting even with top end loads to have a ball on a sounder of feral hogs up close and personal in the underbrush.

Well, I've got a 44 Magnum, but I have never actually fired a 44 magnum cartridge in it. I handload everything to about 44 Special levels. Same with my 357's. They're a little hotter than 38's, but not much.

My most energetic is my 44 mag, short-barreled super Blackhawk. But I truly enjoy my 357 magnums. But my most favorite is my freedom arms 44 special. With the right handloads, I can do anything I need to with a revolver. And with much less recoil and bite than my 44 mag.

.41 Mag. Although I have a .45 Colt Old Vaquero that can run some very stout Ruger only loads. Don't have a need for either and mostly shoot both down a bit from max.

Most "energetic caliber".... right now 475 Linebaugh. These things tend to change as time marches forward. For most things, 22LR is energetic enough for me.

At present, a Ruger .480 Super Redhawk. Usually with 355's at 1400fps or 425's at 1200fps.

My new .500JRH should be on its way to the engraver here shortly. Wild bovines will be on the menu.

But kinetic energy, which places far too much importance on velocity, is never a consideration.

.460 S&W mag. Takes some practice to shoot it well. If you buy one learn to reload or go broke buying ammo. Also you will not be bothered by people wanting to shoot it.

.45 Colt in a 7.5" Ruger Blackhaw for me.

Most of the time it's fairly "low energy". But every now and then I'll get to feeling "energetic" and load up some pretty stout stuff.

I certainly don't need anything more powerful, but those new Super Blackhawk Bisleys in .454 and .480 are sure making me want something bigger.

I have 4ea .44mag and 1ea 45colt with an eye out for a .454. casull. Even though I don't shoot these much I enjoy them. A .460, .480, or .500 would be fun but other guns have a higher priority.

Right now it's my 686+ in 357. Plenty to make most flinch with warm loads. Looking a bit into the future I'm thinking a super Blackhawk hunter in 41 mag that will be scoped for deer and longer range hand gunning.

Had a 629 44mag for a while but it was more than I could handle or afford to practice with at the time, pre reloading.

I'd love to try out one of the big boys but not in a hurry to buy one as it has no real purpose around here but as a range toy (not that there's anything wrong with that).

I have a Magnum research BFR in 45-70 with the 7.5" barrel. It shoots softer with Alliant 2400 handloads than my 3.75" Talo Superblackhawk with full power loads.

Howdy

Most energetic handgun I own is this Three Screw Flat Top 44 Mag RUger Blackhawk.

I have a Smith Nickel Plated Model 29 kicking around too someplace, but I don't have a photo of it.

Frankly though, I really don't have any need for anything more powerful than a Colt Single Action Army 45 Colt loaded with Black Powder.

Current max is a Ruger Super Blackhawk in .44 Mag...

When I was younger, I had a Contender that I shot (and hunted with) that had a 10" .45-70 barrel, and a 12" custom .357 Herrett barrel...

The Herrett was a pussycat compared to the .45-70 with 350gr 'hunting loads' @ 1600+fps...
