Just a heads up to anyone who may not know, a live town hall on guns is live on cnn with obama. I think we know how most of this will go but there are pro gun folks in the room and so far they are asking tough questions. Just wanted to make sure you guys know it's on.

The list of lies that he just spewed in the first 5 minutes just blows my mind. To keep it highroad, Ill say that it is very apparent that his gun knowledge and understanding is extremely weak because he is having to talk on his own. Ive never heard him talk without script. Now I know why.

Also is the AZ sherrif carrying an empty holster? Do you think the SS disarmed him? He is wearing his normal duty belt with cuffs.

Yea I think it was empty. He owned the president by the way. Great stuff. So far 3 pro gun people to 1 anti asking questions, I bet they load it with anti gun questions from the middle to the end. I just can't see them letting in go on they way it has so far.

background checks background checks back ground blah blah blah thats all its been so far

If true AWESOME!!! Win for us! I cringe every time I hear the president speak.

It's only been on 20 minutes but seems like 2 hours already.

This second hour of discussion on CNN with a panel is actually bad for Obama. Hugh Hewitt and one of the women on the panel are making mincemeat of the Obama supporters. The biggest surprise of the night is that I'm impressed how dual-sided CNN made the town hall group and this after-debate.

Didn't watch, was catching up on Game of Thrones. ;) Anyone have a Cliff's notes version of what happened?:scrutiny:

Everyone wants to be safe, no one is for gun violence, sensible rules and restrictions to keep law abiding citizens from buying guns...and we're not trying to take your guns (as long as they conform to what we think they should be), blah, blah, blah.

On the plus side the audience wasn't stacked with antis. Chris Kyle's wife, a woman who had been the victim of a violent crime, and a member of a LEO expressed pro-gun views, and doubts that the new executive action would do anything but impede law abiding citizens from purchasing firearms.

80% of all shootings in this country happen in the ghettos. Anybody asked Obummer how these new EOs would keep homies from "ventilating" each other in the ghettos?

I think that was a very solid showing for us. Obama really didn't answer the hard questions (and there were some good ones) posed by Cooper and others the endless banter about background checks wasn't the core issue.

The discussion after I think was shockingly a wake up call that people in the middle sway more to our side than they thought.

Hmm I thought it was 2 hours? Maybe they realized it wasn't going so well.
lol, I thought the same thing. They stopped it at 10:15 it's an odd time to stop whatever this disaster was.

The President looked horrible in this thing tonight. He showed that he didn't know what he was talking about, literally made up stories about things at gun shows that never happened, and besides, he's not a gun owner.

Whatever credibility he had with gun owners, I think he lost about 99% of them tonight.

"Obama speaks demagoguery, he's totally out of his element."
Ah, that Walter Sobchak had been in the audience...:D

So, is the consensus that any of this is worth watching? Sounds like it wasn't an outright caustic affair, as we'd all expected (although the dosing of celebrities/etc. in the crowd from either side, vs. either random folks or actual qualified experts is a bit disappointing, but hey, they need the ratings after all) but not sure if anything but a few soundbites is worth watching.

Ouch. Well, I guess last 1.5 weeks they've been incessantly pimping this shindig was money well spent...

1. Obama doesn't own guns; he grew up in Hawaii and felt very safe there.

2. Obama thinks that there are windowless vans that drive from Chicago to Indiana gun shows and load up with guns that were sold by private sellers with no background checks to Chicago gangbangers who use them to do their shootings.

3. Obama believes all gun transfers should go through background checks.

4. Obama thinks there are common sense reforms that can be enacted to diminish gun violence and not infringe on 2A. I don't know if anyone ever told him about the NFA act or GCA act.

5. Obama appreciates everyone who went to the "town hall meeting" which felt less like a meeting and more like a staged political event organized by Pravda circa 1964.

Of note, all the black people that spoke at the event favored stronger gun laws and restrictions while most white people were against them.

I was impressed with this as well

I found it interesting that the federal government hardly ever prosecutes buyers who violate the current back ground check law…. Those that Lie about their criminal record…..
So I gotta ask ? why expand a law the government is not enforcing…..

As to the president wanting to hire 200 more ATF agents…
I note he did not say he would use those extra agents to enforce and prosecute the back ground check law violators…… So why hire more people to not enforce the law…..
What sort of twisted logic does this president live by????

For a short while, it must have helped CNN ratings climb above Fox News ratings. CNN is not as desperate as MSNBC, "the prison show network".

At least our well-informed ;) leader had been advised to accept questions and expose his typical ignorance and intentional disinformation about facts regarding any gun issues.
A serious fraction of Americans probably have no idea that most of Pres. Obama's comments about gun issues either have no basis in reality, or are deceptions and half-truths, applying at times to a different context or situation than what is implied etc.

With the townhall's timing After both the San Bernadino and Paris massacres, is a larger sector of the American public questioning politicians' proposed increases in gun restrictions than was the case before those horrible events?
Today's Wall Street Journal has an article in the main section about large conferences where regular citizens are briefed on how to react during Active Shooter Situations. One of these large briefings by LEOs was held in Marietta (Atlanta) GA.
